As I said, I'm not trying to start shit with people who like it. I just think that clean blended fuzz or dirt sounds like stir-fried awfulness, at least through every rig I've ever played. I just hate that layered sound where you hear awesome fuzz/dirt, and then that clanky clean tone on top of it. Yuck.

I piss in the direction of blends and their ilk.

i hear what y'all are saying, and INTELLECTUALLY i agree...... but every time i've played with a pure fuzz signal with no clean blended in.... it just feels like mushy indecipherable mess when there's other people playing too. i dunno. mebbe 'cause i rarely play with guitar players? so i usually want to sound like there's some bass coming through on the low end part but still the wall of noisy goodness up top too?

hurm. i think the Unpleasant Surprise and the Heavy Machine are the only fuzzes i've liked that were blendless. poor, blend-free bastards.

I actually use the TAFM the least out of all of my fuzz pedals. Dunno why. I dig it, but I don't dig the blend on it either. I like to keep that bitch down. I need a good fucking envelope filter though. Fuck. I really wish I could have just stuck with the Xero. But no! I had to sell it AGAIN!. Fuck is wrong with me? I'm thinking of getting a BEF Pro with the hot hands wireless. I just cannot get over how fucking ugly Source Audio pedals are. I know some folks are huge fans of them (for some fucking reason I cannot fathom), but I think they looks like dog turds. Juicy, squishy, chewed up, dog turds.

That said, I also have a MAJOR hard on for the Subdecay Prometheus DLX. 325 though, fuck that.

Something I keep meaning to share here but haven't gotten to until now...

Some of you know that I've been working with an instructor for the past four years or so...at the beginning of this year, Brian (instructor) gave me a CD of songs that he wrote and recorded a few years ago (he plays and teaches guitar, bass, and drums and/but considers himself a drummer first). The recording quality is, simply put, ass...the engineer took each individual track and just dumped them together and tossed them onto a CD. No mixing, no mastering, no nothin'. All that really comes thru are fuzzed-out rhythm guitars and his voice, and I can't hear the drums at all on most tracks.

So anyway, Brian stared me on theory instruction by giving me a copy of this album and I'm to write bass lines for each song. By the time I'd finished the third song, I'd impressed Brian to the point that he decided that he wants to re-record the entire album and he wants me to be his bassist. He's putting together his studio now, and we start the sessions in about three weeks or so. My first gig-like situation and it's a recording session. I'm SO stoked!
