Those snobs on TB are talking with paper assholes. Rig sound great through my existing cabs.
It has a few little issues that will need to be sorted out. Tubes need to be biased which I may do on my own. The fan is noisy on power up but quiets down after a few minutes.
I may do the work myself then have a tech give it a once over for good measure.
I would let a tech at it if you can... [mine over heated once bad things happened, but then mine was the Berkley CA GC floor model for two years before I got it]
Yes,...very much so. As I mentioned in the Macaroni/TB thread, I feel like the SVT has a more open sound. It's probably too loud to crank into overdrive but even still the clean tone is so much rounder and fuller. Lot's of punch. I'm amazed that 300 watts can keep up with the 900 watt SS amp I was using. It's loud,...and that suits Mecha Shiva to a Tee.
I am a little wary of putting too much time on the amp before having a tech give it a good servicing. I'll probably test it out in a rehearsal setting and keep my eye on the fan. I don't want it getting too hot. Do we know if the leads for the fan are soldered into the board or is it a harness that clips into place? I say that but am realizing that I'm not so sure I want to disassemble this amp on my own.
Awesome Hoy. Even my wifey noticed the difference between my V4B and GK head through my cabinet. she said the new tube one sounds fuller. Congrats dude, can;t wait to hear the new mecha shiva stuff through the tubes...
THROW OFF YOUR VACUUM OPRESSIVE SHACKLES MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS. NO LONGER MUST YOU BE CRUSHED UNDER THEIR WEIGHT. THEY MAY HAVE THE TONE THAT YOU WANT, BUT AT WHAT COST? WHAT COSSSSSST??!?
..... completely serious. i really, REALLY care if people like the same gear as i do. because if you don't, you're doing it WRONG.

Nah, I have been trying to work something with him for a few weeks, we couldn't hammer out a deal. He PMed me right after I ordered it with terms I would have accepted. Too bad... The Orange only weighs like 50 lbs, not 85lbs like an SVT...

Good amps sound better than bad amps.
Most bass tube amps are good, not many shitty bass tube heads out there.
Tubes is having sex, SS is having the phys-ed teacher explain sex.
Crank a ‘70s B-15, B-25 or V4-b into a good cabinet and you’ll hear and feel what it’s all about.
Fuzz, dist, etc. just sounds better into a pushed tube amp. Also your playing will feel differently, more like you’re playing the amp as well as the bass.

That's my favourite part. I've yet to play a SS amp that's as responsive to playing as tube amps. Never played any of the really high end SS things though, so maybe some do, but since they cost twice as much as you might pay for a tube amp I don't know why anyone would bother.
