EHX Germanium OD vs. Singing Tree

Post by ifeellikeatourist »

Hey, I've been wanting a singing tree for some time now because I've heard so many great things about them, but I have a question--how does the singing tree OD compare to the EHX germanium OD? Similar at all? Perhaps not, but I just ask because I already own a germanium OD and do not want to buy a singing tree if the two are very similar or if the singing tree is not a waay better od. If I were to buy new, for the money, I would definitely go with the mellowtone, but I purchased my germanium OD used for $45, so basically I need to know if the singing tree is worth selling the EHX and paying more money for, or should I just stick with what I've got? I'm not a big OD guy, so I'd like to just go with one or the other. I mostly use my OD paired with a boost of some sort and/or a fuzz pedal, if that helps give you an idea what I want it to do. Thanks for the help!

+1

From what I gather the Germ OD is like a trashy kinda thin (compared to ST) OD. The ST sounds thicker, smoother, and warmer.

But yea. PumpkinP will probably chime in with better feedback.

I was very surprised how little gain the germ OD had, even for an overdrive, I just expected more. However, with my treble booster in front of it, it gets really hi-gain and the tone is awesome. I do expect more out of the ST, though, that's why I'm interested in checking it out. I am anxious to hear pumpkinpieces' input.

Get the singing tree..... It's a good OD and plays well with others. Also if you want dying battery sounds you could boost the Singing Tree with the Germ OD (on a clean boost setting). It's uber compressed and dying, yet it has a good amount of sustain.
