It's interesting that we were discussing “trademarks” etc., because I just saw a commercial for Robert Ludlum's (1927-2001) “the Bourne Deception” written by Eric Von Lusbader.
Which brings to mind the Ian Flemming, Robert Howard etc. books written after they passed away.
None were ever as good as the originals, but then of course neither were the movies.
Which brings up another point. Has any one making movies based on novels actually ever read any novels?
Can they even read?
Ok semi rant over.

OH MAN! I remember reading about this when it was first coming out! This sounds like the funniest fucking book.
I imagine 1,2,3 Pullout! has it on his zombie mantle at home, you know, a zombie family read.

A 2 hour movie can only cover a small piece of a book. Usually short stories are easier to adapt to movies. You just don't have the time in a movie. Writers also have the benefit of the readers imagination working for them. In a movie, everything is fixed and concrete. You're bound by the laws of nature. Also, just as two people can witness the same event and give two different accounts, a film director mave have a very different take and tone on a movie. The essential parts for one person will be different that the essential parts of another.

Yeah the whole time limit thing is difficult. It takes me a month or two to read one book. And some people read books in one day.... It takes me a half hour to read ten pages. How the fuck people do it is beyond me.... but I'm sure I get a different impression of the book.

Yeah PP I'm one of those people who can read a book in a day.
Well interesting novels etc in a day. Tech stuff and very boring takes longer.
I don't mind movies loosely based on novels per say.
Just those that completely change the characters and plot around or ending .
But I have to admit that” Sahara” was a lot better than the book.
And “The 13th Warrior” was is one of my favorites even though it is different than “Eaters of the Dead”
Actually now that I think about it there quite a few that did turn out better than the novels.
Ok I was being a bitch last night, I'm done now.

Remember that time EVERY SINGLE ONE of alan moores books that was turned into a film has been cinematic garbage? the books are easily some of the best i've ever read. And what they did to Tom Robbins' Even Cowgirls Get The Blues is beyond me.
books should stay books, Unless they turn into cartoons.
