(I'm not familiar with "Jewish Mother Backstage",...but I've been to the Jewish Mother in the tourist area of Virginia Beach a few times, we would always joke that they had pork on the menu).

Yeah, they demolished that entire little strip that the Jewish Mother was one. Now the "backstage" in Norfolk is more of a music venue, dunno anything else about it. However they also have another restaurant in the Hilltop area of Virginia Beach where local acts play.
It's on a Thursday too, no school.

Nah I think that place is near my friend's house on Shore Drive. I mean there are 2 Jewish Mothers now -- one's in Norfolk and now they have another at Hilltop. I think the Norfolk one is where all the cool kids go.

Ah you are right on the Shore Drive. First gig I ever played was at a tiny bar that I can't remember the name of on that road. It was wooden stand alone building on Shore Drive right before you hit Seashore State Park/First Landing/Fort Story. It was a beach bar on the northside of Shore Drive. Looking around Google Maps and It doesn't seem to be there anymore (not to mention a lot more development in that area)

I looked up Jew Mom's Backstage,....it's on Granby,...I'm assuming near the NorVA which is a venue I've never been to (it was established shortly before I moved I'm pretty sure) and near Ghent,...which means that IS where all the cool kids go. I miss the Boathouse. I heard that they were gonna demolish it all together. I saw a few good shows at that venue. Weezer right after the Blue Album was released. Fear Factory,...the Toadies,...The Vandals (who opened up for Offspring and blew them out of the water),...

The NorVa is pretty cool. It's owned by the same dude who runs The National in Richmond. I heard it has an indoor basketball court.
I've always heard that the Boathouse was great, but I missed all of that. You could see the shell of it from the highway in Norfolk, but yeah, it's totally gone now.
I wish we had more record stores. They have a hard time around here though. There's this place in Newport News called Fantasy...the bottom floor is full of like crystal statues and Dungeons And Dragons stuff, and the top floor is an awesome music collection. They have a lot of unusual shit that I've only ever seen on the Internets.
