sourcing parts

Post by the Life Aquatic »

How do you all buy components, do you just buy them as needed or do u buy a ton at once and buy a broad range so you always have different values on hand. I only build every now and then because of having to wait for components to come in, or because i dont have the cash atm and also having to pay $5-10 dollars extra for shipping each time makes me wait till i have a big order rather then a small one. so i dont get to build as much as i want too. can anyone give me a place that sells packs of components in broad variety or just a list of values for resister, caps, etc i should add to a list and buy them all at once.

I buy my stuff in bulk, usually about once a year. I also hate having to pay $5-$10 or more for shipping, especially when that $10 in shipping could be 500 resistors! I also buy from Asia (Tayda, Futurlec), and I hate waiting 3-5 weeks for parts to arrive so I can build something.

For value packs, grab the Futurlec packs of film capacitors, ceramic capacitors, electrolytic capacitors, and diodes. Skip the ICs, sockets, and transistors. For resistors, buy a bunch from the 10% tolerance series from Futurlec. Make sure you get multiples (for 10.0, get 10R, 100R, 1K, 10K, 100K, 1M, for example).

Stock up on pots from Tayda or Futurlec.

This is one of my orders:

Did you get the "traditional" blue stomps or the black ones on the site?

That's them. You'll need to email Mr Lee to get a quote.

I wanted to order some enclosures too, but he's out of stock of 1590XX, though he has 1590B and 1590BB. He said he'd do smaller quantities on them.

I got blue. I've used quite a few black, though not from Daier.

I'm not sure where to ask this. So, I'll post it here (& maybe other threads too).

Does anyone know where to get these knobs?

Please, lemme know. Thank you.

Thanks, Jero. To eBay I go (although I'm probably not gonna be willing to pay as much as they probably want for 'em).

Yeah, that's an old Pearl. I've got a few of them. I was hoping to find some of those (or something like 'em) to put on my BAT Black Forest. I think they'd look really good on it and they're some of my favorite knobs ever. Just a joy to grab & twist. I've been casually searching electronics supply websites and haven't had any luck so far. I guess I could always take some off the Pearls and put 'em on the BF, but I wouldn't mind putting 'em on a bunch of other pedals too.
