I love the SGV but that neck is so tiny, so tiny. And my hands are so big.
I've yet to give guitar a real shot, but maybe if it doesn't work out then I will have to let the SGV go one day.

Boss BF-2 is the only modulation pedal I like. (As they'd say on ToolTabs.net, DEM JONES TONEZ). Oh, and Parker Guitars, in spite of how douche-y they look, tend to be amazing.

similarly, there's a lot of axe-grinding (no pun intended) over quality-control at Gibson which goes back a decade or more when from my observations current production appears to have dealt with those issues, and complaints about their pricing which seem unfair compared to higher-priced models from other brands and Gibson's introduction of more models in the $800-1200 MAP zone. sure, i'd like a $1000 Les Paul, too, but when a PRS goes for $4000 and an Eric Clapton Strat for three, is a $2000-2500 LP out of line?

newer gibsons aren't bad quality wise, they just (IMHO) play like shit

i have 2 les paul 50s tributes with p90s that play like butter and sound like a guitar should. i paid less than $750 each for them. they hit a home run with those. and i'm a fender man.

stereotyping isn't wise. i think all guitar manufacturers have qc issues. i've seen bad martins, fenders, gibsons, rics--i've wondered how some of them made it out of the factory.

different strokes blah blah. Every post-1990 gibson I've played was like playing on a baseball bat IN MY HUMBLE OPINION

Perhaps it's just the factory setup, or the years of playing 6 inline fender scale guitars. I'm sure there are good ones, but I've never played any of them. And it's bad to stereotype, I know. But fuck it, it's just a guitar company.

gonna go out on a limb here and say that bone/wood/horn/somewhat expensive picks in general are really underrated. they just have a really nice attack and feel nice to hold.

I bought some metal picks and those things rule. If you don't mind getting metal shavings on your guitar, it adds this razor sharp high to your pick attack that just sounds fucking amazing when you slam your amp with a lot of distortion and fuzz. Oh and harmonics just jump out of your speakers when you hit them.

yeah, i think the only reason no one has jumped on metal picks is they wear your strings down faster (solution: get picks that are softer than steel) but otherwise they're AMAZIN

i've not gotten into them because my attack is already awfully aggressive, and because i don't like the clanky sound of metal fingerpicks on electric. there's also the gouging-the-wood factor. i've actually been going to lighter picks in the last year or two. softer metals could be promising, though. aluminum or copper, maybe.
