Recording Feedback/Critique

Post by Ghost Hip »

:hello: Hey guys,

I'm getting to the point where I can listen to one of my recordings and not regret/want to change something. I figure this would be the perfect time to get some serious feedback as to what could be improved even though I may not have the technology to do it. I've recently gotten some decent headphones and that's really helped out with getting levels where I want them. (My last headphones had some low end problems so I'd end up cranking the bass in my recordings  ) Anywho, I guess some general questions I have are:

-Are the vocals clear? I don't want them to be over the top pop present, but I don't want them to be mixed low like Loveless either. (there's lyrics on the sound cloud page if it helps)
-Do the transitions from verse to chorus, chorus to verse, to bridge, solo, etc. flow well?
-Does this combination of more electronic beats/synth with shoegazey/noisy guitars fit together good and dandy?

My recording is all direct in with Adobe Audition. Bass was done by my Korg DS-10 synth, drums fruity loops, guitars are guitars, and vocals are done with a really elementary microphone through my pedal board.

Let me know what you think :) If you have any bands/songs that are along the same genre/style as this that you think I should look into, shoot them at me.

Man that is really a great track... I think all you need is some eqing to separate where the vocals and guitars overlap a lil to bring each out... The low end is good but maybe pan it a lil more to spread and compress the drums to make them have a lil more presence... Just constructive criticism tho, I really like it... The best part is the guitar part after the comments... Keep it up...

I feel like the some of the lead guitar is just a tad to quiet, especially in the sections without vocals. I wanna hear those fuzz textures nice and clear.

Other than that I think it's really good. I think you definitely achieved the mix of vocals you were after (present but not overt top) and all the transitions sound smooth.

On my speakers the drums felt more present than anything else, almost like it was a drum track with everything else in the background. Sounded better on my headphones. I would bring vocals and guitar up a tad and push drums back a tad. The song is awesome!

I also agree with this, drums were above everything on my speakers but it sounded a bit more balanced on my headphones.

Thanks guys. I see what you mean about the drums and spreading the bass a bit more. I'll try and take a fresh listen and mix it later this week.
