That Lilys album is the closest i've ever heard a band come to recreating Loveless. nothing will ever TOP loveless, but fuck this record is amazing. Give yourself a little treat.

Guitar is this german dude that does dreamy ambient shoegaze/electro stuff. The way he uses his guitar is pretty fucking amazing.

And Probably the Swirlies. I saw them in Philly in March, it was spot fucking on. *swoon* Plus THEY put all of their albums up for free download so you have NO EXCUSE. LEGENDARY.

I know exactly what you mean, it's pretty much eliminated the need for limewire, torrents, etc. I always recommend this to my friends but I don't know if they actually do it.

I haven't ever gotten gotten into deerhunter. Lord knows i try, but it's more straightforward and less surreal to me. i'll try harder?

Of course, but i think Loveless really defined it. The only record i've ever heard sonically come anywhere near MBV's original masterpiece was that Lilys record above.

Though they're a bit harder than most things that i would consider shoegaze.. but they've got the sonic assault part down really well!

I don't think Deerhunter sound too much like MBV. It's The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart that really sound like MBV.

I can understand why you would think that, and yes, Loveless has one badass reputation.

Personally I think it deserves its praise. Especially for a band that remains mostly under the radar. Loveless was a Velvet Underground and Nico kinda gig. You know, the type that inspires more music as well as being an enjoyable listen. And it didn't sell very well.

not enough low end? If I turn To Here Knows When up loud enough the third chord in the verse progression always shakes and rattles the room around me. Although I guess any record'll do that if you turn it up loud enough. If you get a chance to see them live they take care of the low end...I was right in front of the left subwoofer and my pants + cheeks were shaking uncontrollably during the "holocaust"

I dunno though, this is coming from someone who will never grow tired of that album. I agree with veteransdaypoppy, there's a shit ton of press and praise regarding it, but most is warranted I'd say. But I don't want to force people to enjoy music that I like.

yeah, i've heard the "turn it up louder" argument for loveless before. But in my not so humble opinion, if your record has to be deafening to hear the bottom half of the band, you're doing it wrong.

i do agree with you Aen, the record lacks low end, but i don't think it really needs it. The bass plays a lot of chords, and they don't really use it to hold down the low end as much as hold down the rhythm. They did remaster it and i must say, the low end is much more prominent, but what i found was that i really like the original mix, it had a bit more texture.

I can understand why people don't like it. When i first heard it i was like this is boring stupid and not music. than i got high.

I just understood it. It was ABOUT the textures and the blend. Ah! so good! And since i'm on the topic of textures, my bloody television, i'm glad you like guitar. That album is really wonderful for relaxing.

I had to take a Re-listen to that Fleeting Joys record. Obviously MBV inspired, but amazing in their own right.

Also, i love Aen's consistent *not so humble opinion* on low end and 9v Batteries. Always makes my day
