I love Sleep, but they and OM are TERRIBLE driving music, at least if you're doing an overnight drive. My wife still talks about when we were driving 600 miles from NJ to NC, and when I got tired around 3AM, I gave her the wheel and put on Conference of the Birds. She almost drove us off the road as OM hypnotically pummeled her into sleepy submission.

You just need to put "Radar Love" by Golden Earring on endless repeat.

Yeah I really can't listen to anything like OM while sleeping. Gotta be some heavy chaotic stuff, or something fun and upbeat that I can sing along to to keep me going. Last time I was driving at night I put on some Scrotus (local thash/old school hardcore band that my boss and co-worker are in), and then some Modest Mouse. Thrash for the eyeball opener, Mouse for the sing along keep me going.

ISIS and Bongripper turned up to ludicrous levels are the best for night time driving though. Heavy yet listenable, and the long songs make for great mile killers.
awesome signature with witty quotes from all you fuckers :)

I put on The White Album and Let it Be Naked for long road trips when I'm getting sleepy and sing along. I really like kraftwerk and Tangerine dream for long drives too. Also Ghostland Observatory, and Fang Island are tons of fun. Possibly the best long-drive music is Rehearsing my Choir by Fiery Furnaces.

Just listen to My Sharona by The Knack. Over and over. Oh, and Stuck in the Middle by Stealers Wheel. Because that is essential for road trips in my mind. My mother once brought me on a tour of New York State's caves and geological attractions, and that's pretty much all we listened to.

For night time travel, specifically that which entails riding down narrow, winding roads in rural areas, I suggest Bathory, Mercyful Fate, Emperor, Darkthrone, and Mayhem. I like T rex, Sabbath, and Dinosaur Jr. for daytime wanderin' Also Fairport Convention
