I just traded away a JHS modded big box Rat Reissue (with LM308). I only ever used the stock setting and it could do subtle or high gain, no problem.
I'm not really seeing the issue here.

Yeah, I agree. Both my BYOC Mouse and my old Rat2 does great low-gain overdrive tones. I almost prefer them over my Timmy... now that's saying something. It's kinda a little known secret that Rats are great for ODs. :poke:

All Rats go from lovely light overdrive to fuzzy distortion, with a germ diode clipping option you get even more fuzziness. Personally I like the old 80s style circuits with an LM308 and a switch to go between silicon and germanium clipping. I reckon any clone with that option will be great but as hinted at already go into a shop and try any rat they have so you can hear the wide range of overdrive through to distortion they have before going further with this quest.

Thanks guys... I've tried the newer Rat2's and just didn't get along with them. I keep trying, but mean while I think I found something that does exactly what I'm looking for and it's not a Rat. The Wampler Black 65.
