Looking for a new bass!

Post by sheeparecountingme »

Preferably within the $200-300 range. My girlfriend's not the biggest fan of my P-bass. So, I'm hoping I can find something more to her liking. Any suggestions?

In that range, used is your best bet. Might be able to score a sweet Peavey.

Do you want full scale or short scale? I love Aen's mustang. I have never been very comfortable on a full scale.

That's incredibly vague, but you can look around for something like a Squier Vintage modified Jazz bass. That's about the opposite of a Precision, for the most part.

What does your girlfriend not like about your bass? Color? Sound? Did you accidentally drop it on her toes?

Fleabass. She'll love it. Plus it is in your price range.

I've actually been pretty impressed by the tones I've heard from those in the Youtube clips I can find. Surprised me a good deal.

Also, I believe that MusicMan is working on coming out with a new series that will target that price range.

aen's wife pretty much nailed it. She's not digging the full-scale. I'm sorry I didn't specify that I was looking for a short-scale bass. Thanks for the suggestions, folks!

Gretsch Electromatic Junior Jet - $250

Short scale. Pretty cool little bass for the money - strong, killer pickup. I have one, and have no plans to dump it. I prefer my Mustang, but those are a bit out of your price range.
Maybe partying will help.

Squier vint.mod jaguar bass isn't bad.

Considered a Epi EB-0 and a repacement pickup? Dirt cheap bass and the pup might BOTH fit in the price range.

I haven't tried the Flea bass, nor the Gretsch junior so can't tell if they''re worth the money... but I'd try the Gretsch, there's some nice units among the cheap Electromatics.

But I'd go for something used, probably, usually it's the best way to get more bang for the buck when buying with a tight budget.

And Your GF wanted a shortscale? You both pay the same instrument? Or what does she has to do with Your choice of instrument ? :wha?: :?: Not that I'm the biggest fan of presicion bass but that should be irrelevant. Right?

I have a 70's music master body with a bronco bass neck and I really like it. It was under $200 used. Aen's mustang was more, but I think you could find something in a decent price range used.

I always hated playing electric bass until I played a shortscale. It was AMAZING. Also, flat wounds.

Found these to be a little too heavy.

I bought one of these for a girl I was dating. Even without a replacement pickup, it sounded pretty good. Worth playing one before replacing the pickup.
