Math Rock Anyone?

Post by smile_man »

I know bands are too cool to be defined by a genre, but just for definitions sake we'll call it math rock.

On of my favourite bass line ever.

I would call Tera Melos post-mathxcore I guess

Dave Davidson (singer) has got to be one of the most talented musicians I've ever heard.

Sort-of math.

I think I like the Tera Melos one the best. It seems the most cohesive to me, and I like how many different sounds the drummer gets out of a snare.

These guys kill it. their keyboard player quit though. Bummer.

But seriously, once you get past the nonsense in the beginning, Listen to those guys play. watch the other few parts.

Easily one of the most insane bands i have ever heard.

Not sure if they necessarily qualify as pure math rock (whatever that really means), but 65daysofstatic are one of my favs in this genre.

One of the most criminally unknown groups of the genre: Giraffes? Giraffes! I saw them days after I saw Tera Melos and I think they killed them. Skip to about 2:35 if you're not into ambient/free jazz/weirdo intros.

And.....the original math rock band...80's King Crimson. Polyrhythms, weird noises and chapman sticks galore.
