Pedals to Sell
So, here's the issue.
I recently got aquainted with a local music shop, and was offered the chance to sell my pedals in the store. However, as I'm not quite yet at the level where I'm designing my own circuits, I just usually make clones, that I build only for myself.
Now, the problem is that I don't particularly feel comfortable selling clones through the store and stealing business from the builders. So that takes a whole mess of circuits that I love out of the running for selling through the store.
So. what are some circuits that aren't manufactured anymore? (from companies that don't exist anymore, or whatever) What I've found so far includes the Bazz fuss and the Maestro MFZ-1 (great pedal), (I'm on the fence about the Bobtavia). Seeing as it's not made anymore/co. doesn't exist, I'm fine with selling copies. Anyways, enough of my rambling. Show me some circuits that are good to sell clones from!
While I'm at it, what are you thoughts on current co.'s pedals that just aren't made anymore? (namely, the EHX Muff Fuzz, or things like that)
Damn, I talk alot. thanks in advance....
EDIT: (just so you guys know - I'm a beginner/intermediate builder. So nothing too complicated please. I'm still always interested in seeing them, but just to keep in mind)

I've always said that if I had two monocles, I'd make a spectacle of myself.

Re: Pedals to Sell
Wow, this thread could get ugly.
Plenty of boutique and mass-market companies are selling clones. Look at how many Muff, Rat, Fuzz Face, Tubescreamer, and Tonebender clone options there are. And one brand has even specialized in selling a dozen different variations on the old Electra Distortion circuit.
My suggestion to you would be to take a circuit you really like and add something to it. There are already a shitload of clones of damn near everything. Just try to do something a little different, unique, etc.

I know, I know. It can get pretty nasty - I remember going looking over that thread about someone cloning the Devi Hyperion. Pretty despicable.
Anyways, yeah- I'm working on modding some things right now. Just wanted to know if there were some nice circuits out there that I could use as a starting point.
And I love the Electra (:

Cloning gets bad when the builder blatantly tries to say it's a new circuit they completely designed. I'm fine with people building most stuff that is no longer produced, as you (& many others including myself) are doing, just be upfront if it's someone else's design...that's the least we can do. As far as creating something totally new, we've got our work cut out for us. So like cj said, people don't usually mind new takes on old ideas.

muff fuzz is still being made (double muff, etc), but has some great sounds available and surely there are some ways to mod to be awesome.

Re: Pedals to Sell
You could hire a third party to design an original pedal for you to sell. Come up with your own concept, then find someone to design it's implementation.

nothing wrong with cloning devi. its the lies and the bullshit and the unethical conduct cold calling retailers and defaming for profit. and also claiming to be the 17 year old MASTER BUILDER direct descendant of jesus with not one original design. bullshit meter was going crazy. gives religious people a bad reputation.
my whole opinion on it is this, no one really has an ***ORIGINAL*** design. by the time you get to sit in the designer's seat, you have already looked at lots of schematics. there are pretty standard ways of doing anything. nothing has never been done before. its like the hipster analogy. you could be against everything thats ever been done but its impossible if you look hard enough at what influenced what. even the most blatant clone will have subtle difference based on the parts and the builder being a little different. lovetone kicked the electra can so far down the street its almost not easy to see where it started years ago. I would not even know this if CJ did not tell me. I guess it pays to look at other peoples stuff. its as much a part of building as it is learning.
edit: I mean to say LOVEPEDAL not lovetone , sorry

There are so many points in this post that I agree with. Added plus, I almost spit my coffee right onto my keyboard. Everything is influenced by what came before it. The greatest part of my influence comes from vacuum tube amp design cause I've had my hands in near any guitar you can name. I still think that you can do something new these days. Look at EHX they've had a lot of pretty original ideas over the years. Also sometimes people come up with the same ideas at the same time and have no idea. When we started marketing the Barnacle I came across some other pedals with some similar features, none of which I had ever heard of and I know they'd never heard of us. With that in mind I still believe that the Barnacle is an original design. Which really seems to have made it difficult to market. If I just wanted to make money then we make Klons with a bird on them (watched Portlandia last night) and drop as many names as possible.
