Amp Kits

Post by oldangelmidnight »

Does anyone have experience with any of the amp kits out there?
I want something relatively simple. No reverb or tremolo. Not too high-powered. Just a head. I've built pedals from kits and modded guitar electronics just fine.
Who should I look at? Weber, Allen, Ceriatone, Triode, Mojotone who else?

Or are kits just a waste of money? Should I source the parts separately? I don't want to spend a thousand dollars on a kit.

I mean, if you really just want to test the waters, and power isn't much of a factor, you could always try out the Beavis Audio Noisy Cricket: http://www.beavisaudio.com/projects/Noi ... k_Rev2.pdf

Or the runoffgroove Ruby:

Although I feel like you probably want something more of a bigger, more gig-able head.
I've always said that if I had two monocles, I'd make a spectacle of myself.

I bought a weber kit. Great speaker, good mojo cabinet. The chassis was fine. All the componants were less than stellar. I would concider getting a weber kit, and buying a hoffmant turret board from the get go.

You can get better, but webers prices are pretty good.
