I don't know, I kinda don't like when people use very feminine ideas for gay guys. Why can't he just be the Prom King, and also be gay? If it was a transsexual, then it would make sense. I guess some people like the defiance of "gender roles", but I think instances like this kind of intrude into the parts of "gender roles" that are actually in some ways appropriate.

Ugggh. Gender roles... blah blah blah... All in all, this is just a break from a boring tradition that means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of life. Being gay is a 100% norm and a non-issue in my book. And being prom queen is something ridiculous that no one will remember. I'm glad those kids had fun with it. There's no need to look further into the meaning.

Gender roles

I think at this point all the crap built up from our past primitive tribal ways needs to be washed away. I think if everyone just viewed everyones else as "people" and nothing more the world would be better for it. I personally like women that look like and act like women as a "interest" but that isn't my attitude twords how any of us should be viewed and treated in society, I believe in absolute equality, and this means I respect [or try too] even if I disagree will peoples views on who they are or think they are or who they want to become. So if a boy wants to be Prom Queen [if this is actually what he wanted] cool if a girl wants to be captan of the school football team, cool. But then the hard part, if someone wants to hate people do to sexual pref and skin pigment and believe they with live a eternity of fire and poking [to use one of my own song titles which pokes fun at this subject] then I have to except them

The main problem with this in particular is that it's just substituting one gender role for another. It's also hard to know if the students maybe caught onto this and were just taking the piss out of the guy. It just takes one smart ass.

I also don't believe that men and women are basically the same apart from physical differences and hormonal impulses. There's a lot of "progressive" people who seem to stick to this(I had friends in college like this), but it really messes things up for people like me as I think it can feed the anti-trans slant you get in some LGBs, or rather a lack of understanding - as men and women neurologically are very different, thus the case for transsexuals. Nobody should be held to gender roles, but I do find the distinct lack of feminine beauty these days sad. Then again, it's not as if guys aren't even worse, so maybe that's just a general issue.

Personally I hate how gender roles define people's interest. When you're trans, you kind of have the "wrong" gender interests pushed on you, but because of that you get exposed to things you normally wouildn't, and honestly boys toys are much better.

It's good to take people just as people and not worry too much, people should not be restricted by their gender or sex, but discarding knowledge and information in the name of being "progressive" is something I take a stance against.

Yes can see your point but I can also look at history [and the present for that matter] and say that even "discarding knowledge and information in the name of being "progressive" " is a small step forward in a long journey of people actually being respectful and decent to one another no matter what their differences are, if you take a good long look at the has-was-is of it all things can get pretty bad.

You can't get everyone to get along and feel the same about others. Some people will always view "different" as a threat, sad and but.

I don't understand the negative aspect of acceling or not, naturally at something because of gender. People want to be individuals and seen like everyone else sometimes. We are really good at creating our own problems.

Despite my case for neurological hardwiring, I don't think things like institutionalised bigotry are just "the way humans are", I think the actual hardwiring of our brains doesn't inherently across the board lead to specific concepts like discrimination against difference. Human's neurology/psychology is full of dualities, we may be suspicious of new things but also get bored of monotony and like to take risks. I think a lot of it is to do with cultural information, memes. Right now the world's subtext, especially thanks to the internet,teaches us it's alright to be a bastard.
