Fender Super Bassman VS Bassman 50
The '71 Super Bassman (original name for the Bassman 100) still hasn't sold. Current asking price is $400. Would a 50w Bassman be a more desired amp though?

Super? I've had an old Bassman 100 before, and it was the quietest 100 watts I've ever heard. It may have just needed new tubes, but it was so meh I didn't bother to find out.

physically it looks really solid, is missing the back compartment cover and he also said the pots are a bit scratchy occasionally. Why is the one on ebay so much? hah
He still hasn't gotten back to me but I was gonna offer $375 and see. Got 2 nibbles on my HRD so far, but need to hear back from him before I go amp-less.

Re: Fender Super Bassman VS Bassman 50
Bassmen are kind of tricky to talk about because all of the different circuit revisions that were issued, many times in simultaneous production with other revisions. But, . . .
The Bassman 100 has 2 preamp tubes and 1 phase inverter tube, whereas I think all of the 50s have an extra preamp tube providing an extra gain stage for the normal channel. It won't functionally be much gainier, but it'll fel a bit smoother and maybe a touch more compressed. And maybe it'll hit the output section a hair harder. The 100/Super should keep a much cleaner character by comparison. Whether this is good or bad depends on what you want. For the typcal guitarist, the 50 might be more desirable stock and for modding. If you want to do loud gigs and/or use it for bass, the 100 is probably more sensible. But either way, if the 100 is in good shape and recently tech'ed, that's not a deal I'd spit at.
