What be your fav pedal for shoegaze? (fuzz or otherwise)

I have a shoegazer pedal, but I don't really stare at it too much.

I don't think shoegaze has all that much to do with which fuzz (though it is pretty helpful for it to have a healthy range with the tone controls) but more to do with what you do with your reverb, delay, and modulation.

I used to do a bunch of ambient shoegazey soundscape stuff out live with my midiverb 4 set in various modes. The hugest, deepest reverbs I have ever had. Slap any dirt in front of that and bam, shoegaze town.

Yeah...I got the joke... but the point I was making was that even though Devi calls that pedal "The Shoegazer" it doesn't seem to be any better at creating the shoegaze sound than lots of other fuzz pedals.

but again, we all have different notions of the genre. i wouldn't call the jesus and mary chain shoegaze, but a lot of people do.

right now for me, anything close to shoegazey sounding stuff (since all my 'verbs are gone) is achieved by turning all my dirt pedals on and slapping some tape style digital delay on the end.

While we're on this subject, whats your guys opinions on a good shoegaze / rost-rock bass dirt pedal. Might have an opportunity to join up with a band playing bass, and i don't even know where to start on a small (PT mini w/ 3 pedals guesstimate) bass board for this. I will be using a 5 string bass (also looking for recommendations on a cheaper one of these, love my olp 4 string so i'm thinking of picking up a 5 string one) or tuning my 4 string to drop c standard (string recommendations for this???).

If I recall he has a Rocket, Shoegazer, and a White Spider on the 'main' board, plus a Godzilla and a Dream Mangler on the You Made Me Realize board.


As for the question, either my Swollen Pickle plus my Nova Repeater in Reverse mode, or my 33 with my BF-2 and my Nova Repeater in analog mode with a long delay time.

How dirrrrrrty you wanna get? Personally, I think you couldn't go wrong with any of the usual suspects: Eau Claire Thunder, Hair of the Dog, SS/BS TAFM, The Elements... or a Tone Machine clone. You can never go wrong with Tone Machine on bass.

I can remember when the Penny Pedals Fingerprint was touted as "the" pedal for Shoegaze. I later had a "Snowflake" clone of the Fingerprint and it was a decent pedal if nothing spectacular.

It's successor, the Snowdrift, seems to have all but disappeared. I no longer see them on the Fuzzhugger page.

I wanna get like 3 weeks unwashed in the jungle, balls, dirty Preferably one with good grit, lots a lows, and super long sustain...... with a blend knob (Behndy, i now see the light!!!!!) I've been thinking about a TAFM for a while, but the ECT is enticing as well. BUT i might just pickup another LSTR since i know how ballsy and grity those can get, but they dont have a blend knob.

Well i'm partial to the TAFM or the Elements, so it's down to deciding if i want fuzz or distortion. Thanks! You da man!

Doesn't the frazz have a clean blend? That thing's pretty mean on bass.

Well if i get this bass gig, then i just might join! I'm thinking a fuzz might fit better in their tone then a straight up distortion. Plus i believe TAFM's are a bit cheaper which is good.

Yeah, in my post-rock gig, I'm using a Rat Tail for my distortion needs, and a Wooly Mammoth for my fuzzy needs. I would imagine that a TAFM would be a really solid replacement for the Mammoth.
