New Montreal Assembly Pedal Day!!!!!

Post by wdinc01 »

Oh yeah, a CA Ring Mod. That I sadly have to send back because something suddenly made it stop working while I was out yesterday. It was storming a little bit, so maybe it was that, I'm not sure. But I didn't want to wait another two weeks before I showed off this beautiful looking pedal. And I had him put in a light probe, which was MEGA FUN.

But for real, look how nice the finish is! Its quite handsome.

I want to give a big thanks to Scott for helping me with the whole ordering process, and being so gracious as to take to fix it for me. I'll definitely make a demo when I get it back.

That is nice. If you can, post some clips when you get it back.

Those FL thunderstorms are no joke. My parents shut down their computers at every approach of a storm.

Most definitely. I didn't get a chance to try out the effects loop, sadly. But it sounded really awesome when I got to use it. Not as clean as a Frequency Analyzer, but not as dirty as an Android. Wait, I wonder what it would sound like with a ring mod in the effects loop...

And no kidding about the thunder storms. I thought it stunk that it was raining because I wanted to take my dog to the dog park, but I didn't think it was going to kill my gear. I should have unplugged it before I left, but I didn't think it was going to storm that much.

I like putting a Rat in the loop. Fuzz and some delay in the loop is sick!

I've never really used the loop on mine, I should probably do something about that.

Definitely try it out. I like the ring mod on it's own but putting stuff in the loop can be magical.

ya i dont really use the effects loop much either but it doesn't hurt to have it. I think the reason its a bit harsher sounding than the Freq. Analyzer is that on the CA the resulting effect is like ring modulation with a square wave as the carrier. So it creates _a lot_ of harmonics. The Frequency analyzer is more 'true ring modulation' in the sense that it has a analog multiplier and a sine wave for the carrier. The CA circuit sort of cheats but the sound is similar.

multi_s, is CA's circuit a "balanced modulator"?

I've got one of these and I've found that putting a delay and some kind of modulation in the loop is beautiful. The dirtiness of the ring mod plays off the swirliness really nicely.

Yeah, I remember reading that. Never tried out that circuit though. Was always curious about it. Thanks.

Update time: I got the pedal back last week and of course it sounds AWESOME. I recorded a demo last night but I don't think the sound recorded correctly. Which is to say, it makes me sound like a demon for some reason. So I'll try to mess with it tonight or tomorrow, and worse comes to worse I'll record another, more cohesive one.
