Hi All,
I'm in the process of making my first EQD pedal purchase, and am really torn between these two. I really want a pedal that can make crazy unique sounds, but I also want something that will be useable. The Rainbow Machine seems to be the most unique and crazy, but after watching lots of vids I really question how many ways I can end up using it in a performance context. The Sea Machine on the other hand, seems to have a vast number of usable and awesome sounds, but of course lacks the crazy uniqueness of the RM.
So, any advice from owners of these two pedals? I guess the big question is can the RM do more tonal, usable sounds that still retain some of the character and craziness that most of the demos show?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

i would start with the sea machine. the rainbow machine is quite useful at modest settings and when stacked with other pedals, but it may not be as useful to you in a live setting and it will take up real estate. you will probably want one later anyway.

Re: Sea Machine or Rainbow Machine?
Definitly get a sea machine, I've had both and came to the conclusion that the rainbow machine is better
used as an occasionaly used effect where the sea machine can be used way more frequently.

If the Prymaxe demo of the Rainbow Machine doesn't have any sounds that you see as "useable" I'd get a Sea Machine.

I haven't tried a Rainbow Machine, but the Sea Machine has loads of amazing 'usable' sounds and also gets pretty crazy itself.

I have both, and while they are fantastic in different ways, I would suggest starting with the Sea Machine.
I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

Re: Sea Machine or Rainbow Machine?
Thanks for the input, everyone.
I feel like the Sea Machine is the more practical choice, but the Rainbow Machine is practically jumping out of my screen, grabbing my neck and screaming "BUY ME BUY ME BUY ME!" every time I watch a demo of it, so I may still throw logic to the wind and grab one.
My main gripe with it is it seems from the demo the magic switch only seems to produce atonal crescendos of noise...I'm wondering if there is a way to make to get more tonal results with it (ala the crystals setting on the Eventide pitchfactor)?
