Time to come clean, you guys...

Post by Brettski »

...With your own BYOC portable CONFESSIONAL BOOTH!!! Now you can confess ANYWHERE!! You might as well bring it to the strip club so you can get it out of the way as soon as your fav booby waggler gets done with you. You could confess at the grocery store, SmacDonalds, a NASCAR event, the bank, underwater... The guilt expunging possibilities are ENDLESS!!!

The Catholics idea that I need a priest in order to confess my sins has always baffled me. I went to a catholic school and when they had reconciliation mass I just prayed to myself. Actually reconciliation was one of the first things that stuck out to me that made me question my beliefs back in the good ole preteens.

Anywho, I'd buy this for shits and giggles if I were rich.

Erm, I think it has something to do about guilt and power............................. Also giving one a false sense that once you confess you no longer have to take responsibility for ones own actions................IMOP..................

Absolutely. Religion is simply , without a doubt in MY mind, a broad reaching control mechanism. It's a great way to convince a LOT of people at once to abhor another tremendous group of people. It also allows for the transgressions of certain groups to be overlooked or even justified.

Guilt, to me, is a form of fear. You feel guilty when you eat fourteen Big Mac's in a week because you're afraid they'll give you one of those front asses. Inspire guilt and you plant the seeds of fear. Make people afraid and you can do with them whatever you please. Pretty played out but it keeps working.

The idea that religion is just there to control us has always baffled me. I mean, maybe that was the meaning of it originally-- but most people that say that haven't really been involved with a church and talked to these people. They truly believe it. And not all of them force the religion down your throat. If they're using it for control, I just don't get the angle...

Of course, the people in authority can force the belief on you, but most arguments make it seem like there's a secret society that tells the preachers the truth once they start. That it's all a lie, and they're just tricking everyone into obeying... that's not the case. They believe it. It's just like atheists constantly trying to prove them wrong or that asshole at the music store that told me that I "should play some blues because nobody plays blues anymore." I didn't have the heart to tell him he was retarded... or that his navy blue sweat pants didn't match his green "ARMY" T shirt...

Alas, I think I'm going to market a portable Glory Hole. It'll be a nicely framed piece of plywood with a hole in it with "Penis goes here" written on one side. :joy:

I was brought up a Catholic, went to Catholic school etc. So now all that means is that I'm a Dawkinsist atheist. To be serious though, I don't have the energy to argue with people about religion - I've tried and tried and you get nowhere, so I can't be bothered anymore. As far as Catholicism and confession goes, the old joke here is that Catholics are the most hypocritical of those in the Judeo-Christian tradition - you can beat your wife, fuck around, rob, cheat and steal, but as long as you go, confess your sins and ask for god's forgiveness, all is well.

And in my experience, just about every Catholic family I've known is seriously fucked up.

But you know, whatever.
