Your thoughts on this?

Post by Sonic Viking »

Tonight, I went back to my old high school for their guitar program's showcase. Some kid had this Kay semi-hollow guitar? The teacher claimed that it was from the 60's or something. He also had a tiny 5 watt ampli-vox. So I couldn't hear the guitar at all. So, is it good? Should I be excited that I got to see something like this?

I don't even understand your question, but I think I'd be happy just to look at a guitar like that. I also think it's more likely from the 70's.

My buddy has a Kay very similar to that one. His dad said he got it new in the 70s so I'm sure this one is probably the same. These guitars (If kept up) sound awesome. very unique tonez!

Oh, OK, gotcha.

Yeah, I love old weird guitars.

As far as old Kays go, that one probably doesn't sound as good as some of the other ones.

I like the sound of those old semi-hollow ones in general though.

Shit's beautiful though <3 I found it really odd that the pick up selectors are two sliders on the pick guard that say mic 1 and mic 2.

Not that odd. Back then pickups were also referred to as mics. I'd venture to say that guitar was made in Japan and imported by Kay. I'd also say that those sliders are probably volume and/or tone controls and not pickup selectors.

it was a slider switch for on/off on the pickups, each one had its own control
So this turned into another devi thread...

Oh, gotcha. I thought he was talkin' about slider pots.

It's definitely 70's, prolly made by Teisco. Not really rare but a cool guitar nonetheless.
