Twin Reverbs? $200 all day long. the Gibson tweeds that go for $1200 now? NOBODY EVEN WANTED THEM. same thing with Jazzmasters and Jaguars. you could go back to 1972 with $10,000 of capital, bring the stuff you bought back to the present day, and retire on the profits from selling the stuff off. or just be the happiest player in your town.

You don't even have to go back that far. In the late 90's/early 00's when they were being discontinued, Digitech Bass Whammys and Akai Deep Impacts were being blown out of stores for like $79 just so they could kill off their inventory. Now they're both going for about a grand each. :no:

...Yeah, and how about the Digitech Space Station and the DOD Buzz Box and the Gonkulator, too. :facepalm: ALL the interesting out of box creepy and violently noisy Fx gear that nobody seemed to get back then.

Great read OP. Brings up some points on collectables,...fads,...and finding (even cheap) gear's voice and as a result your own voice.

All you need is for someone famous to innovate (find their and their gear's voice) and popularize a piece of gear and the masses will sell a kidney to buy em up because they want to sound like their idols (not realizing that often times talent trumps gear when it comes to "a" sound).

I'm constantly blown away by the prices of (as BigChief points out) used Deep Impacts and Whammy IV's. I've never heard a famous musician's sound and thought to myself,...."I'd be willing to blow my paycheck and portion of the wife's to cop this guys tones".

I mean I'm not going to tell someone how to spend their money and if they can afford it,...fine. But I'm happy to work with what I've got and I don't care if it's a $20 dollar pedal or a $400 pedal.

hmmmmm... Deep Impact and WH-1 for £100 each both within the last month on eBay. i passed on both :lol: don't care for them.
the deals for those pedals are really out there and i can't for the life of me understand what Muse fans will pay for them. mass produced pedals from relatively recently - there are thousands of them that people probably still use so they're not even obsolete stompboxes retired to the attics yet. i wonder if prices of those pedals will go even higher or if they'll sink like Boss and Maxon pedals when everybody has finally got theirs.

Whaaa .... I'm not seeing either of those in completed listings. That's an insane deal based on what they usually go for. Got a link to either of them?

sure thing

here's the Akai - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 500wt_1058 - the seller let it run after i turned down his price. didn't want to risk my gear karma since i'd only buy it so that the notorious eBay SupaFuzz flipper didn't get it and i needed to save my pennies for some real fuzz that i has my eyes on :animal:

and the WH-1 - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 500wt_1058 - auction was pulled for somebody else (presumably the same price i was quoted.)

My first Space Echo was being used as a doorstop (literally) at a music store in the early 90s.

I walked by it for a year before realizing what it was.

I won't make you cry by mentioning what it cost.
==
My pedalboard costs approximately 191 Metal Zones.
