Mice have been in my amps

Post by morange »

So, recently I cleaned out the cabinets of two amps I have. I just got done brushing out a Traynor head, and I cleaned out the inside of my Ampeg SS-70 earilier this month. They both had mouse pellets in them, rattling around and raining down on me when I shook it out.

How could this even happen? Who lets their amps get full of mice? I wonder if a mouse has ever been inside an amp when it was played.

I've only ever bought 3 vintage amplifiers, and 2 of them had poop in them. This leads me to believe that most old amps have had mice in them. Have any of you ever found mouse poop in your amp?

Were they in storage? I'd have to imagine that our unsuspecting mouse would have been vaporized by all that current if he were to shack up with Minnie while that thing was being used.

Someone posted here awhile back sharing pics of crazy gear repairs and a mouse nest was included haha! I miss that thread now that Im thinking about it.

Rodents residing in my amps would make me very, very unhappy.

I once found a mouse mid-jam in between my bass head and carpet covered 2x15. I took it outside and let it go but the damage had obviously been done...it crept away looking like a bad breathalyzer participant. Granted, we play in an old carriagehouse in the woods...

Most storage units seem to have rodent issues. As do lots of garages and some basements. Before someone is ready to sell an amp, it may very well have lived in one of these places. It's just gonna happen sometimes.
