Shipping a case

Post by Officer Bukowski »

I put my PT1 w/ HC up for trade but I got a shipping estimate for over $50 from USPS on it and there's just no reasonable way to make a worthwhile trade with that kind of shipping.

Anyone know of a good cheap way to ship such a thing?

Once you get over a certain size and weight, FedEx Ground and UPS Ground become much less expensive options. FedEx Ground usually wins when I quote out items like what you're shipping.

UPS won't be less than $35-40 before you add insurance over the included $100 ($2 per $100 extra). I wouldn't trust USPS to ship anything larger than a pedal honestly....

A cheap way to ship would be local sale with customer driving their ass over to pick it up. Beyond that, I think you're stuck if $50 is too high.

I recently shipped a guitar from NYC to PDX via FedEx Ground and it was around $40. True story.

I'm shipping from the Chicago area? I don't know. Where are you located? I just entered info to ship from my place in Glenview, IL to my mom's house in Ohio. 30lbs package, 24" x 20" x 10", $200 declared value, FedEx Home Delivery (same as Ground for residence) is $26.

Change it to Los Angeles as the destination, and it goes up to $40.

I got a 2x12 FedExed from somewhere in the US, across the border into Canada for $70.
No idea how that happened. They didn't even screw me over for brokerage, which is a rare thing indeed.

US post, whatever company, smoke some fucking amazing green to come up with some of their price schemes.
Whatever they're smoking? I WANT IN!!!!

These are international rates obviously but still qualify in their ridiculous forming of figures...

1.8kg (less than 4lbs?) - $85 and three weeks (not insured, not tracked) - 'big company'
42kg (more than 92lbs) - $145 and THREE days (insured, tracked) - random user

Go figure.

Update : Last night I sent a Peavey T-60 boxed and in its OHSC from NY to VA for under $30 via FedEx Ground. Should be there by Friday afternoon. And that's a heavy ass guitar.
