I havent had many instances where "trusting" the sound guy was a good thing, if there is even one there, not saying that all sound guys are horrible quite the contrary, i just dont play many shows where they are supplied. (maybe i should fix that....)

Gearmond wrote:2. two suitcases are more bearable than one bigass cab

This, is very true.

Gearmond wrote:3. its cooler when you sound massive/crazy with a li'l combo than with anything more

and probably some more stuff to do with volume or whatever

Why are you concerned about being cooler? If a small combo fits your tone then by all means rock it but some of us like a huge 200watt tube amp pushing some massive air and don't consider one or the other cooler. Some of the best musicians i've seen rocked out with a tiny combo and a bunch of 30$ pedals, it was their music that made them cool, not their gear.

Yeah, this is my main problem. I play a lot of places that only have a PA for vocals, and I really, really want to be oppressively loud. Plus, house shows frequently are the best shows. Hard to wreck shit with a 1X12 in a room full of people talking.

House shows really are the best shows, hands down. Sound like we play similar venues with vocal only pa's. As far as wrecking shit, there's also having too much and getting too loud. That's unfortuantely where i tend to fit in, 15 years playing and im just now figuring out what a volume knob really does

big ass rig that's modular FTW. i love Aggy GS12's, i have a pair of GS112's and a GS212. let's me go from one little bugger to be mic'd at a nicer place or all of them to poke holes in urethra's at unmic'd spots.

Whats the configuration of your 3x15? Is it some sort of zigzag or one of those vertical numbers ala Kustom?

Eat a whole bag of Dick's.

Just kidding; Sweet Setup. :thumb:

As a bassist relying on Solid State Gear,....I like having a wall o cabs and tons of watts. PA is largely non existent in the venues I play in around town. It's not my intention to be oppressively loud but to have a quality of tone (both clean and with my Fuzzes) that you just aren't gonna get with underpowered solid state gear. I love using a Preamp/Poweramp setup as it really does give me a lot of options with running cabs. Both of my cabs (a 4x10 and a 2x15) are 4ohms and I still have impedance to add two more 4ohm cabs if I wish (not really necessary though). I do think I should try to find a more modern sounding preamp,...but ultimately I want a Mesa Boogie 400+ and go all tube.

To keep the natives happy.

Current-ish shot of teh Bass Board. I don't frequent TGP,...so maybe this is an ILF board?

I'm actually discovering that I do not like having my Fuzzes compressed (previously I lived with it but it is becoming intolerable),....so I'm conjuring up a way; using a BOSS LS-2 to come up with a loop for clean compressed tones (compression does wonders for my clean tone) and a loop for everything else uncompressed while minimizing tap dancing.

I ultimately want to get into the Voodoo Labs Pedal Switchers and Commander as I think that would really be the best route to accomplish what I want to do; which is have a modular setup with Fuzzes and Distortion and Octave and essentially set and forget pedals on the floor (one for Bass one for Guitar) and a Keyboard stand setup with the Delays and Filters and MuRFs and whatever else that is actually gonna get fiddled with on the fly. Unfortunately I don't have $600 to drop on a switching system.

For the moment I'll figure something out and I'm thinking of just putting all fuzzes, filters, etc in one loop and compression in the other loop and then having the DL-4 in series after the LS-2. Keep it Simple Stupid.
