Best Free Recording Software?
Got a new laptop and want to do some simple recordings before buying actual software. suggestions?

Just get the trial version of Reaper, it doesn't have any of the features cut out and the trial period is indefinite.

Audacity is good if you're doing really basic recording.

Also, Reaper is like $60 anyway. So, even then, most affordable if you ever decide to buy one.

if you need a recording interface, they usually come with free recording software, usually a "lite" version.

I've been using Audacity and I have the trial Reaper, but are there tutorials or quick start guides? Because it doesn't make much sense to me...

My band has been recording with a friend and he uses Reaper and it's a wonderful program. I personally use Adobe Audition but I'm probably going to change that pretty soon.
