ring modulators?

Post by Phengren Oswald »

What is your favorite ring modulator and why?

I'm already pretty familiar with the Moogerfooger Ring Mod
(the best in a pedal?) and the EHX Frequency Analyzer....
What else do folks on here like?

Randy's Revenge is lusted after pretty heavily but won't be available until it's revised. Early 2012 is the prediction.

I've tried several (the Moog, the Copilot Android, Gonkulator, Ring Tone, my space station has a ring mod), but honestly the EHX Frequency Analyzer is still my favorite. It doesn't have a ton of features or knobs, but especially with the filter switch on, it's just the beefiest, thickest, best sounding ring mod I've ever played.

Yeah, Frequency Analyzer's a classic. Moogerfooger gets my vote for most tweakable, but I think Randy's Revenge sounds the best.

I've owned two ring mods: the android and the ring thing. The ringthing is my favorite. Between the filter and the many waveform options, you can get as clanky or bell-like as you want. Plus it'll tune to whatever note you feed it automatically if you hold down the preset switch, this is invaluable when you're trying to quickly get the sound you want. Also it's analog for whatever that's worth, and it's supposedly the same ring mod as the frequency analyzer.

The pitch-shifter part is as digital as can be, but i'm 90% positive the ring-mod part is a digitally controlled analog circuit.

The Iron Ether FrantaBit is also doing a great ring mod effect.

True, but there are people building clones of it right?
