WHen all my friends were listening to Nirvana I was busy with discovering Ministry and Skinny Puppy. I could never understand why all my friends wanted to listen to whining when there was HEAVY pissed off music out there. And if you dug the music there was always the Melvins and Sonic Youth. Nirvana = Overrated IMO :idk:

that was.... weird. i just went to the local music studio for the weekly jam night thing because my guitarist friend kept telling me i should stop by.

it was... like.... 80's? 70's? covers. i THINK some was Led Zepplin? or Black Sabath? i'm a little off. i have never really listened to the radio or older stuff. i know some of the pop stuff from when i was in High School.... but that's really it. i always listened to Speed Metal and IDM. Nuclear Assault and Aphex Twin.

so i just.... stood and watched. i don't know any of that stuff. i thought it was gonna be like.... when i jam with friends. just pick a key and get messy. not SONGS. i don't know any fucking songs.

i finally got pressured into playing since all the other bass players left. i was out of key as shit at least the first 3 minutes of every 4 minute song. just tapping atonal shit on purpose.

was..... intetesting.

I hate getting roped into situations like that and pretty much refuse to allow it to happen.

Hey you should come jam with us at such and such open mic blah blah blah.

Do you mean Jam or fumble my way through a bunch of dad rock and I IV V I've never heard let alone learned how to play?

And you're right Behndors; Jam = exactly what Mecha Shiva does every time we rehearse ("pick a key and get messy").

Songs?

Actually we are finally beginning work on loosely arranged material.

grah. ALL. THIS.

only bass i have that i like is the 6 string Dinger, so i brought that and a pedal board with like 1 straight ahead fuzzes, a couple weird fuzzes, an M9 and some odd bouncy shit. did NOT even unpack it.

so not what i was expecting. not hating, if that's what people dig on, have at it. does fucking ZERO for me, and like you, i don't know that shit.

just..... boring and made me feel like a shitty musician. YAY.

It's situations like that when I bring my trusty tuba. That fits into any genre. The kids all call me fag and lame and vagina blood fart....but I know how all of their compliments are like opposite and stuff these days. They all really want to be me.

Dear Nirvana,

Thank you for opening me up to an entire new world of awesome music when I was a wee lad. You always gave credit where credit was due, all whilst rocking my world.

Actually I guess if I put together a timeline...

Nirvana came into mainstream being some 7 years into my musicing, but it was a pivotal turning point. Being that I was 12 at the time, just getting pubes and such, had nothing to do with my enthusiasm increase I'm sure. :poke:

Maybe hearing Suicidal Tendencies at 5 years old and scampering about the floor on all fours was more important. But I couldn't afford to buy my own albums back then, just had to make due with the mixtape my mom's friend made for her, that I quickly took possession thereof. :joy:

At 3 years old it was Supertramp on vinyl with a bigass pair of cans from my grandparents' 4000+ pound built-into-fuckin-furniture stereo, then bathtime with Houses of the Holy on 8-track, both of which were certainly life affirming. :)*

Wow!!! 330 pages of content in one thread? Shouldn't it be time to break this into a Part II? JK I hate that...Behndy's smut shop Part 10...revenge of the blurgs!

Hi I'm a TB'er sick of all the same questions rehashed over and over like the answer is gonna be different. Shouldn't every possible bass question be answered by now? Nobody uses the google search...silly noobs. ILF looks like it's gonna be WAY more interesting.

Thank you, I'm done now.
Feedback on TB...look me up.
