Cheap but good shortscale bass?

Post by jrmy »

I'm sure that I'm not alone in this, but I get a couple of crazy ideas a week, and occasionally one sticks around... they rarely pan out, but somehow they still manage to keep me up at night. This is related to one of 'em:

Does anyone have suggestions for a good, yet cheap, shortscale bass?

I was even thinking of looking into Daisy Rock, though they don't make the one I would have wanted (the star bodied one)... or, wait... maybe they make it as a guitar, but I can't find it as a bass...

Squier Badtz Maru Bass? My bandmate's is still bad ass to play. But when you get up to grab some Fritos don't step on the chord and yank the input jack out. Still plays and sounds sweet through a 4x10 stack.

I haven't used 'em, but rondomusic seems to have lots of shortscale basses in a variety on configurations. Lots of people seem to like 'em. I would guess the resell market sucks.

True... but for this particular wacky project, I'm looking for a 2-pickup setup... I was thinking of a jag shortscale from Rondo, but now I can't find 'em.

I might even look into one of those epiphone SG basses.

But I have to admit, Badtz Maru haunts my dreams now...

rondo stuff seems to come and go, the rule of thumb is that they never have the exact bass you want when you want it ;)

i had one of the long-scale 70s jazz bass copies and it was REALLY, REALLY nice, better looking than the squier version. maybe could've had a better set up but i know nothing about basses. sold it to get a short-scale version but never got around to ordering it...
