Devi Ever wiring diagram- ZG

Post by the_necropolitan »

I want to buy a Devi Ever DIY kit, but I'm pretty new to the whole DIY build thing. I've done tons of mods, built a few pedals and can solder, but I have no idea how to wire the pedal for true bypass with an LED, how to wire the pots, etc. Can anyone help with this?

I also want to build one of them double Devi pedals someday, like a GZ mixed with a Dark Boost or something. I want the ability to turn on both circuits at the same time and independently.

Are there any resources out there about this? Can someone assist? Thanks!

Yeah, I'm aware of Beavis Audio. However, it still doesn't explain where the pots go or how they're wired, and how to ground the pedal correctly. I've seen pictures of people soldering wires to the back of pots and all sorts of shit. I just don't get it. I also don't want to trial and error too much because desoldering sucks.

if you look at the schematic for the ZG you will see how the pots connect. the rule of thumb is that any gain/volume pot is connected to ground somewhere on one side. once you learn that, you will be good to wire most pedals in your sleep with your eyes closed. they all go the same way. anyway, read the Devi schematics to figure out the pots. read the GGG wiring diagrams or Beavis Audio to learn how to wire up the box. sometimes a pot gets wired to only two wires. when a middle lug is tied directly to an outside lug, it is not really doing anything. there are reasons people wire it up even though it is mostly pointless. if you think of these like a variable resistor with only two lugs, it will be easier to understand. also it is impossible to wire a resistor in backwards. they are the same at both ends. if you see a 2 wire pot on the schematic then wiring it is super easy, two wires any way you want. if it is backwards, you just open it up and fix it.

As eatyourguitar points out, most good pcb layouts will make it totally clear how and where to wire each connection to each pot. You'll find that often, when a circuit has several pots that all require a ground connection, the pcb will have individual pads for each pot connection: However, if you trace these pads, you'll find they are all connected together at some point and also connected to the in+out grounds, which will also have their own dedicated and labelled pads.

The only time you might need to think about where to make your ground connections is if you get into vero/stripboard: quite often, vero layouts indicate where certain pot lugs are wired, but then have instructions like "vol1 and gain1 to ground". In this case, you'll need to find a spot on the board that is connected to ground that you can run a wire to, or simply wire all the grounds to the input (or output) ground.

devi actually daisy chains a wire to all the grounds off board. saves time and maybe $0.01 in wire. and she finishes the ground chain by soldering directly to the back of the pot which is connected to the front of the pot touching the case. so yeah there is not even solder on the connection. your devi pedal is grounded by nuts and bolts. heating up the pot is a good way to fry the pot. especially when you pay robot idiots to do your assembly.
