I'm a TC fanboy.. a friend of mine has the BH500- that thing rules pretty hard! I know that there are gallien kruegers out there in the same pricerange but the 500 has the mos features of them all. So... my vote goes to the BG500... http://www.tcelectronic.com/bg500.asp

Small and solid state is a cheap and easy for bass amps. I play through an Acoustic B200H with a 115 cab, and it's not bad. Takes pedals well, gets pretty loud, and I got it for a steal from Guitar Center.

I would also like to know this. I want to get a 100-150w bass amp to use for shows. Guitar amps are to expensive and I never use anything but the clean channel.

Bass amps are just like guitar amps, different for every user.

When I had a solid state setup I had an old 90's rack mount Ampeg B-2R. I played show after show and I still got complaints that I was too damn loud. (that and I was running it through a 8x10)

I like what ampeg, ashdown, and the newer line gallenkruger amps have put out. All with reasonable price options and many different types of heads. Ashdown has a warmer British thing going for it while the Ampeg and GK amps have a colder ultra clean vibe too them.

but now that I have a tube head I don't think I want too play anything else.

I run a 600w 210 kustom and a 65w 115 peavey TKO and I drown out drummers regularly.
the kustom does put out a crazy amount of LLLLLOOOOOWWWWW end for being a 210.
also Peavey TKO work well as a guitar amp.

This exact rig is what I used for a while. I still use the 115, but the amp is under the bed for backup or in case I need a crazy stereo rig.
200 watts(@4ohms) and can run into multiple cabs. Lots of EQ, and effects loop (that I honestly never tried). You can find the heads themselves for less than $200 used, sometimes a lot less.

One time, I found a B200H at a pawn shop for $99. BUT ANYWAY, I've found that it's a great beginning bass head, plenty loud to play shows with, but kinda meh in the guitar department, as are most cheap SS bass heads. They sound kinda bland and characterless on guitar. BUT MAYBE THAT'S JUST ME

You can get them for $200-250 fairly often. Talkbass is great for this.
Then just find a cheap cab. It is a very loud, very clean head with a graphic EQ plus you get the toob preamp. It does make a difference, it's not the same as an all-tube head but imo it is much preferable to the SS preamp on it.

Running short on watts with a solid state bass amp isn't a good sound!
I recon you should be getting the stage volume you want with the amp on about half.
That way the amp has a bit more juice if you need it. It's not like turning a tube amp up to full.
And to compete with a heavy hitting drummer and a quad box toting guitarist, 400 watts is a starting point.

If you play with fully slick all pro dudez in a jazz-fusion/rock ensemble then you can probably get away with less, but if that is the case, what are you dooing here?

Sorry, disagree. My covers band has played to a couple hundred before. Singer, guitarist playing 100w tube through 2 4x12s, and a jackhammer for a drummer, and I've never found myself in want of watts. I'm running a Genz Benz 3.0 through a 4x10 and a 1x15. In fact, most of time, I'm the one being asked to turn down
