By all accounts (and I'm conjecturing here, since I never did this work for them) they were a total PR nightmare--like most of the other Seattle bands.

In fact, running my head back over that area and sound, the only band who seemed less crazy than the rest of them was Pearl Jam... and they were the only ones to sue Ticketmaster.

well i'd think the nightmare was just how reactionary that scene was to the hair metal stuff. like all the other right-place right-time guys i mentioned were at least a LITTLE pretty. hell even the sex pistols

I pick Fugazi. Did way more for me personally, not just musically, but how to run a band and operate as an individual. Nirvana just had some cool songs? Fugazi changed my philosophy on life, politics, and many other things. However this question is really just an opinion. I don't think it can be statistically measured. To quote Fugazi, "how did a difference become a disease?"

Nirvana definitely made it less likely to get beat up for wearing a Fugazi shirt. :idk:

I think we are creating a false dichotomy here, no reason to choose one or the other, and there are so many different ways we can analyze either bands influence/impact/importance. They also really were completely different bands, despite both having similar influences and a similar time of formation, the similarities stop there.

For what its worth though, Fugazi were a much better band imo. Also, I'm not really sure who ever said that they lost relevance after in on the kill taker...Red Medicine was much more experimental, imo their best album, and I believe it was their highest-charted album as well. Even The Argument was a really fucking good album.

OK.. I've been fallowing this and jokes aside I don't see how you can compare Nirvana and Fugazi... sure they have similar elements in their music but one was a band that did their thing on their own terms and the other went to superstardom making "underground" music "mainstream" so I don't see where any real comparison can be made...

Now...
Nirvana vs REM maybe..

Or Fugazi vs The Melvins...

Bumping because I fucking feel like it. Eat my ass....

Anyone who saw Nirvana on their last tour before Kurt blew his fucking head off, would never say that Nirvana that "sold out" (whatever the fuck that really means). I'll never forget 13-year-old me standing there, loosing my fucking shit because they started off the show with "Radio Friendly Unit Shifter" (the most ironically titled song ever), and then watching them go through "School" "Milk It" "Territorial Pissings" "Scentless Apprentice" and "Blew" (off the top of my head) and getting my feeble teen mind blown the fuck away, I stand by my original analysis. "Kicked ass."

I still think Radio Friendly Unit Shifter is one of their best songs. Still holds up.

It all holds up.

Sometimes I have trouble deciding whether I would rather see the Beatles or Nirvana live, like if I had a Gay Time Machine that could do that for me. Probably the Beatles, yeah, but the fact that I have to consider it is crucial to the idea.
