I noticed the Black Angels Ep in your spooky tooth demo. Would you say the spooky tooth would be good for getting tones like the black angels? I have a gnarly already and i love it. Your demos sounded great btw.

I think you could definitely get some of those tones and then some. The black Angels usually stick to fz-1a territory, and this pedal is there but in a different way. I really liked it alot, If I was going to buy one from the tourbox it would have to be the spooky tooth or the fuzzmondo. Both similar yet different, both had that greasy 60's vibe that I love. The gnarly is along those lines as well just not as tweakable, a bit more fy-2 and less fz-1a I would say.

I wanted to take a moment to say a few words about the TGP tourbox I recently had. It included 4 pedals; the zippy; gnarly; scarab deluxe; and the foxey lady. I've already reviewed the zippy and the gnarly so I'll stick to the other two here.

As with all of John's builds they were solid and well made. I was particularly drawn to the scarab deluxe. It looked great and had lots of range. I liked the copper faceplate, I thought it added a classy quality to the pedal. I have wanted to try a scarab deluxe for a while now, mainly because of the demo Phillip and John did which was incredible. This pedal I would've bought, It was what I wanted it to be. Very tonebender like but could go from fat and stout to spitty and aggressive. The knobs were nicely laid out and his choice of knobs were perfect, looked great as a whole. I can't recommend this pedal enough, I really dug it!
The foxey lady I spent less time with but was fairly impressed. The looks were not as appealing as the scarab but it was basically just a painted box with the basic audio badge on the front. Had a very homemade quality to it, which itself was kinda cool just less appealing. The sound was very controlled and tight, not as huge as I was expecting but very musical. A good solid tone which would make a nice foundation for adding other effects.

I had much less time with these but still the quality was very apparent. This zippy was an older version of the pedal, but I really liked the sound it had. It was different from the version I had in the DAM tourbox. It didn't have the horn switch which I would have prefered, and I'd say it had less range but the overall tone was really cool. A bit less refined than the newer model which I liked. The pedal looked cool and had a really unique paint style (not sure what to call it) kinda swirly and textured. Overall I would've probably prefered the new version only because it had more of a complete feel and was more versatile.
The gnarly was pretty much the same pedal I reviewed before so please refer to the first post for thoughts and info on that.

In my experience the basic audio pedals all offer versatility over much of what is available out there. That being said they each react differently to different amps/guitars and when I found the right combination it was sonic bliss. The great qualities would really come out. They are all useable with all of my setups and offer a nice fuzz experience but as with most fuzzes when you add all the right ingredients they are capable of magic. Either way you really can't go wrong with any of John's builds it just depends on your matter of taste...
