Pick My Next: Bigsby? Sea Machine? PolyChorus?

Post by julius_deane »

I need some vibrato/analog modulation/shoegazingdrones/whale bends/etc

I used to do this with my Memory Boy, but I sold it to a friend in need. The modulation on my m9 sucks. I like what's on my Disaster Transport, but it's rather unique and not always useful. So my thoughts have been:

-A vibramate and Bigsby for my hardtail Jag, thanks to the "suggestion" of Noisemaker

-anolog(ish) modulation pedal, maybe a Sea Machine or StopReferencing's PolyChorus

Thoughts?

BTW, I'm looking for probably $150 range and am in no hurry.

EDIT: OR just save a little more and get a Pitch Pirate Deluxe. :) Is it analog? :idk: But it sounds

I had thought about that, but I'd rather not drill holes in my guitar, just in case I don't like it.

I think what I'm actually trying to say about the mod on the disaster transport is that it's not overly versatile?
I think I am leaning towards a pedal of some sort... more fun, right??

Also, if I have to listen to Nirvana in one more modulation pedal demo vid...

Two things about the bigsby: even if you never use it, it will make your guitar infinitely more badass. Second thing if you get it and really want to use it for more shoegazey kinds if things you should get a Chet Atkins-style tremelo arm for the bigsby.

From what I've read they make the bigsby a lot more useable. Asis, in order to use the bigsby to get that classic shoegazey swoon while you're playing you have to hang your pinky down over the trem bar; which is both difficult and uncomfortable. One of these days I'll get around to putting one on my tele.

For a pedal suggestion i'd go for either the super pitch-pirate or the sea machine. I haven't tried either but both look fantastic.

I'd say sea machine. It does all kinds of fun things, and it's really great for shoegazin'. Plus if you ever want a really nice chorus, BAM you already have it right there.

Why not get a bigsby and a sea machine I've got the same jag you have and snagged a b5 bigsby (from noise) for it and I had a sea machine
at one time, they made a nice combo. :)

you will love it

buy a b5 from amplifiedparts.com then put the money you save on their great pricing and not getting a vibramate towards a sea machine

i should be a personal money consultant person

Yeah, I'll probably do both eventually. Just trying to decide which to do first. The Deluxe Pitch Pirate would be my first choice, but $300.
I totally believe it's worth it. I really missed my chance to get a sea machine on the cheap a few weeks ago on tha bay.
There's a huge hole on my board, but there's also a lot of space at the back of my guitar...

I love the Bigsby, but it's not going to really give you "modulation" in the sense that pedal users tend to think of same, i.e. a chorusy sort of effect.
