yea, I pretty much meant open sound chords like Cmaj and chords like that.

I think "ambient" has a lot more to do with rig, style, and recording techniques than the actual chords or notes.

Triads over bass notes. Changing the bass note while holding the same triad can do some pretty ambient/dissonant stuff

Standard fifth-root powerchord on A + D strings second and fourth fret respectively, , add in the the 3rd Fret on the B. Then move the powerchord to the D and G? That's an easy one. Jane's Addiction have quite a few very nice ones circa 'Nothing's Shocking' era stuff. Maybe some tabs from that period might be helpful?

Play in DADGAD and learn some of the open voicings, or tune to Open C or Open C Minor, depending on if you want to make happy music or awesome music.
