Pedal "code colors"

Post by Gearmond »

its always interesting to me to see the language of colors in the pedal world, where all/most/a lot of overdrives are green, like the famous TOOBSCREAMAR or brown for... a famous brown overdrive i guess. and many other pedals seem to fall in line with boss' coloration with green tremolos, blue chorus etc. etc.

dirt pedals tend to follow this less though, i just thought it was an interesting thing that i feel is really prominent in guitar pedals.

I dunno, but there are too many dirt pedals for there to be just one colour, so that covers your last paragraph

Lots of orange/red, probably something to do with the phase 90/small stone.

Lots of super heavy distortion pedals are black. May have something to do with the RAT or the Metal Zone. Or because black is just the best color.

This interests me, too, but other aesthetic things even more so.
For example:
goat/sheep/ram = Ram's Head Muff clone/variation/soundalike/etc.
Marshall-type knobs = Plexi soundalike, etc.
scriptish font = vintage MXR?
anime girl = buncha awesome shit :D
i'm a grrnoise

The same colors being repeated prob has to do with the pedals that were most common...all those pedals are cloned and cloned by various companies. I think it helps give an idea of what a pedal might be, if the name doesn't. Makes it seem less like they are trying to rip the orig company, by passing it off as a new product. Idk. It's interesting for sure.
