Re: Rangemaster Build
I agree on rangemasters and solid state. I also think they sound worse on high gain pickups. tried it on a Roland JC120 with high gain pickups and it was blah. my strat into any amp makes the rangemaster sing! its important to find the sweet spot in the guitar, pedal, amp where you can control the distortion with how hard you play. trills sound great. I love to noodle around all soft and stuff and then I bang on one note and hold it out as it fades through all the shades of distortion. definitely a keeper.

Good thing i got a small tuber recently (the darkness of it was actually the push over the cliff for me to create the RM)

well i managed to fuck up my stomp switch, i pulled a lug out. *facepalm* I'm not even going to bother with the LED, so does anyone have a spare DPDT stomp to spare?

You could probably still use the 3pdt with the missing lug. Just use the other rows.

I'm an idiot for not thinking of that sooner.

Re: Rangemaster Build
melting a 3PDT is something I did a lot when I started DIY. I also had a crappy soldering iron then. it still happens sometimes when I mod a pedal. the wire that is attached to the 3PDT acts like a heat sink. a BIG heatsink. so you need to really sit on it to desolder something.

For folks wanting to jump on DIY-ing one of their own, there's also project stuff at the Tonefiend blog, and Mammoth is selling associated kits. I can't tell if the kits include a germ transistor, though.

you will find that online you'll get them much cheaper, given they are not the taiwan but chinese ones (which will work fine). I get them in kits of 10 for about 30 bucks.
Also, Tayda has them for 3 $ a piece and generally lots of parts for dirt cheap and cheap shipping.

Re: Rangemaster Build
This is an amazing Rangemaster pedal to build (DAM Red Rooster clone)...

Confirmed. Sounds fantastic.
I used a CV7112 transistor. It's a military version of an OC140, but with way less noise.
