I remember really really really digging their Fat Tire, but that was a long time ago, and I haven't found it anywhere in New England yet. Which is too bad, cuz I'd really love to try it again.

Fat Tire is the beer that made me love beer :thumb:

I dig their Abbey Ale, Trippel Ale, Mothership Wit and lots of others. There is a fairly good selection of their beers in Minneapolis and they are pretty reasonably priced.

Bummed I couldn't find the winter ale, but I picked up some 1554.
Apparently, our BI-LO carries Sierra Nevada, so I'm going to have to try their Celebration Ale sometime soon.

So, does darker = smoother?
I definitely prefer the 1554 black ale to the pale ales I have had.

Personally, I'm not much of a fan of New Belgium's line, but I know plenty of people who think it's the shit.

I'm drinking Lenie's Original. To me, it tastes how beer should taste.

Finishing a 4-pack of Dogfish Head Olde School Barlywine. I'll be checking myself into rehab later.

Provisioning up for Thanksgiving: thus far, I got some Cape Anne Fisherman's Imperial Pumpkin Stout, BBC Russian Imperial Stout... if I can find the time before we leave, maybe some more BBC offerings (Shabbadoo, Coffeehouse Porter)... and... I dunno, something lighter... maybe...

It's probably the hops. Pales ales can be overly hoppy, bitter, or just funky. Where black ales usually rely on roasted and toasted malts for flavor, more than hops. Do you find Newcatle smoother than Pale Ales? Cuz brown ales are sweeter and smoother to my palate than Pale Ales cuz of hopping. I try to avoid ABA's cuz the American style has more hops than the tradiational.
