yup, hazel, that is some good shit. As far as bit crushers go, is there no love for the geiger counter? Always seemed interesting to me, but I've yet to bite the bullet. I will be giving mr. multi_s a good amount of money. I love his things.

mmm. maybe you just need to present a good argument why it should be there. I admit on the first bunch of the prior revision the gain was probably a bit too low, but once you get the right balance i find there is very little desire to change it. Also really i want to minimize the controls on the interface to avoid having to put it in a massive box. i want to have more parameter controls since the patches are more elaborate and also already the added mix...

Has anyone tried the BugBrand? Tell me about it. How much does it go for, usually? I found one but am not sure if it's a good deal.

i haven't used specifically a "bugbrand" one but i have built similar circuits. also i think cloudscapes (sonic crayon) built something similar if you look through his old blog posts. all it is is an analog 'sample and hold' amplifier, maybe a filter and a clean blend. They do sound pretty neat but are very much a one trick pony. And i love tricks so......

Regarding the BugBrand - I've had two of them (sold one when I got the newer version...) and I just like the tone/sound on them. Just a preference thing though. I have this one now:


And it is not going anywhere (unless Tom Bugs makes a better one!) The blending and the filter and the CV control make it irreplaceable in my kit. I don't use it for everything, but when I do use it it does things that nothing else can. And I just love the way it sounds. If you can get a good deal on a one knob MicroCrusher I'd definitely do it. The big ones don't pop up that often.

Regarding the Geiger Counter - I had one, and it was sweet for sure. But the sounds were too aggressive and too digital for my personal taste. And also the interface with that menu on the pedal was too complex for me to use regularly. I like knobs more than menus. If digital destruction is what you like though - that box is kinda king.

Ive own the bugbrand micro crusher and its great! even with just one knob you can get a lot of interesting sounds out of it. played by itself, you can get ring mod type sounds to aliased metallic sounds with the knob fully clockwise.

it sounds better, IMHO, after distortion or fuzz. it sounds like its ripping pixels to shreds. adds a nice aggressive sound when your dirty it up.

Yea, I couldn't resist.

As far as having more gain doesn't it get more fuzzy the more you reduce the bit rate?

I guess if your using it on a guitar and then a synth it'd be nice to adjust accordingly. Although, I use an AB box and if that was the case then it would be simple enough to add a passive mixer pot in which it would accommodate your whole synth rig.

The Bugcrusher is very cool. It's not technically a "bit crusher", it's an analog sample rate reducer, which is just another way of doing something similar to a bit crusher, which is a digital effect by definition. Sample Rate Reducers do tend to sound more ring mod-like. The Copilot Antenna is another one.

I've only played 3 or 4 bitcrushers so far and did not like the sound of any of them. I like the bit crushing idea and all, but that 8 bit sound drives me fucking nuts. I've tried an Iron Ether FrantaBit, WMD Civilain Geiger Counter and the Earthquarker Devices Commander Bit (I think one other too, but can't recall the name). Did not like any of them. The Franta had cool fuzz tones, but I've been seriously underwhelmed by them all.

I'd like to try the Bugbrand pedal, but can't really afford it. Looks cool though.
