The geekiest gear interview ever? (Mogwai content)

Post by dronemachine »

I just saw this a few minutes ago...I'm not much into Mogwai these days, but this was fun...no serious fuzz yet,at least IMHO....or did I missed something...? :idk:

Orange and Marshall stacks? Multiples of the same pedal? BYOC Ratt's? I've never really given Mogwai a shot before but I think I will now! Good interview, I must have stopped the video three or four times just to try and recognize every piece of gear they had.

i saw them a few times in the 90s when they didn't have any of that stuff.....and i'll tell you what, buying all that gear didn't make them a better band.

Yeah, pretty much...all of their stuff after 'C.O.D.Y.' didn't really appeal to me as something interesting,in fact i find it really boring... :idk:

On topic...I've heard that they even had their own Mogwai muff made by EHX,or something like that... :?:

Yea I saw that... Cool video. I wish more people would get cool interviews about their gear like that.

I saw them about 4 years go, and they still knew how to rock. I really enjoyed Mr. Beast, the other latest releases have been good... Maybe they'll pick up the pace again.

I've never really liked their fuzz tone. Too 90s or something.

i know they use a lot of EHX fuzz stuff - big muffs, graphic fuzz etc, but most of stuart braithwaites distortion sound comes from a ...danelectro fabtone :whateva: which i think is a pretty horrible sound.

i saw that interview some months ago and i think he mentions in it that he buys a fabtone whenever he sees one because they don't make them anymore. I love Mogwai, but he really should get a new dirt sound...

I agree. I would have never tried it,but when i came across one in the studio,i instantly remembered Stuart's setup...plugged it in to give it a try...I don't get it,it's like...nothing special. Could be better than ds1,though :idk:

yeah it's loud and it is a bit crazy, but I find it just pretty artificial to my ears. I would actually much rather use a stock DS1, in all honesty, at least the dials on that thing alter the sound in some way, which can't be said of the Fabtone. One trick pony. And it's a lame pony.

They shoot horses, right?
