The ENTIRE NETWORK at my college just went down for OVER AN HOUR, despite having triple redundancies in the part that went out. Meaning no interwebs. Panic and horror permeated throughout the student body. People were screaming and rolling on the floor in the hallways of the dorms, having lost their primary source of life force. No one remembered what to do without the internet. It was bad.

Is being afraid part of this thread too? I am working on a story about a guy that will definitely not make a good figure, but the dude threatened me, because he knows my publisher. I am going to go for it anyways, I will definitely not let that threat keep me from writing that story. But I'm still scared shitless that I will lose my job because of this.

On another note from work: I've lost out on a real scoop. I had the story first but I wasn't allowed to publish it, because the person in question had not given her consent and it was not public interest. Another newspaper had less second thoughts and if you search for Hilda Breer on Google News now, there are even argentinian newspapers that copied that story. it could have been mine.

i totally should've went to art school. i hate how i feel like i'm one of the few who really cares about like, design and how things look and generally art in my art classes! we had to make this informational brochure for my freshman seminar which is essentially an art class. (we spend more than half of the time there in the studio.) and for presenting our rough drafts, i had this beautiful piece of graphic design made from scratch in illustrator while everyone just used like templates from pages and shit. even though he specifically said to use illustrator. and i feel like the class like resents me for that because the professor is always giving me lavish praises and spends forever talking about my work and it makes shit awkward. and he's really cool and i totally adore him so it makes shit suck more. I FEEL LIKE I'M IN THIRD GRADE AGAIN AND PEOPLE ARE MAKING FUN OF ME BEHIND MY BACK FOR BEING A TEACHERS PET. and also the fact that people poke fun at me for actually giving a shit about my work is kind of disgusting.

like for one other assignment, this girl and i had similar ideas but i presented first and so when hers came along he said her idea was like mine but mine was more clean and modern and hers had a kindergarten quality about it. the look on her face was like, painful. i was like oh my god you can't fucking say that. that girl probably hates me. she called my entry for the student curated show a bag of garbage. in critiques in a different class her or her friends always snark at my pieces. I JUST WANNA HAVE ART FRIENDS AND DROP THE HIGH SCHOOL SHIT.

and also i want to start some kind of disco/shoegaze band so badly but like i play bass i wouldn't trust anyone else to play bass and i would probably need to play guitar for that or just find a guitarist who won't mind me having total and utter control over his tone. and also i've only been asked to join punk bands and i dislike punk so much. and i also don't have the time. and i'm going broke quickly. i want a sugar daddy to buy me gear instead of overpriced shoes and clothes. no wait, i actually don't.

AND AND AND my piece is getting hung today and there were 16 pieces that were to be hung in a grid and two of them are missing. i fucking counted that shit like a million times. i have to make two more before noon.

This may sound weird(because I may be completely wrong) but it sounds like going to a bigger college might avoid some of those issues. Maybe not, I know even in really big schools art programs tend to be pretty tightly knit.
