I'm a wannabe drummer. I actually wanted to play drums before I played guitar. I actually just recently start taking drum lessons. Hopefully I get decent.
Danny Seraphine's work on the first two Chicago records are the best thing ever. He is without a doubt my favourite drummer.
The way he jams with Terry Kath, and the way he just does his thing with the rest of the band is awesome. That is exactly how I hear drums in my head.
Andrew Scott from Sloan is also up there for me. He kind of is a little hyperactive sometimes, but I love what he does behind the kit. Seeing them live really made me realize how much crazy shit he does. He's also a killer guitar player to boot.
John Bonham is almost a cliched choice, but goddamn he rules. The way he shuffles the bass drum is awesome. He's also got such a good drum sound. He only got better too. I heard some crazy live solos from a bootleg, and wow. Just wow.
Ringo is also awesome. I don't get why people rip on him. He's kind of goofy at time, but his drumming is so musical, that if you took away all of the other instruments from a beatles song, you could tell what song it is. He's also got style.
I don't listen to much heavy stuff anymore, but Blake Richardson from BTBAM has my respect. I love the way he accents everything everyone does perfectly. If I still played in a heavier band, that's the type of guy I'd want behind the kit.
