I think the post# categories help encourage lurkers/newer members to join in and not get crushed by the old timers...so I vote to keep that.
Yeah, definitely no names. It's the best way to keep it a pedalboard contest, and not a popularity contests.... although some boards around here are pretty recognizable. There's no way around that.
I also think the post # categories are nice, because then most of us won't have to deal with those TGP'ers (who only sign up to try to win stuff, or pawn off their unused gear in the b/s/t. haha) who will inevitably end up entering their boards full of Klons and Triangle Muffs.

Whoever votes for a board like that can be exiled to TGP.
As for the contest part, it's more an excuse to get your pedalboardporn fix than anything.

That's how I see it, which is why no usernames would be good, just threads of sweet board pics and nothing else. Obviously some boards are extremely recognisable, but there's no avoiding that.
More seriously: I think we should move on with this, what do You think? I guess we have covered so much of it already we're falling asleep or turning into bureaucrats if we continue going back and forth about things...

I want to say early December at the tail end of SS, say the week of the 5th. A week for submissions and a week for voting (I don't see the need to drag it out over a month)
4 categories based on posts/title 0-150 150-1000 1000-2000 2000+
E-mail submissions (I'll give out an email at the proper time). Include your username and title (so I can double check), and a picture of your board (derp). Boards will be simply labeled A B C D or 1 2 3 4...you can take credit for your board once the game is over. I'll give out an email when it's time.

So, I've been thinking about this. mostly about what to include in a board made up for this that will then be taken apart again and never used. Or if I should just post the home board like I used it even if that is a) Le Recognizable and b) not fancy fit for any votes. But I just love the sounds I can get out of it, even if it's not fanceay.
Conclusion: How about an extra category with sound files only. Rules: one recording, 2:30 max, there has to be a clean sound in it, and all the pedals on at once too. Someone uploads that stuff on Soundcloud and everyone can have a listen and vote just like the other categories. I volunteer to do this.
Of course you need a recording interface for this, but you need a camera for the other categories...

I am so down for that. Would there be a theme/idea to go for (like noise vs more melodic sounding things), or just people would just vote on their favourite sounds?

I'd say just favorite sounds for simplicity's sake. But of course all the boards will have different sounds suited for different styles. I can basically cover shoegazey stuff and make expeditions into noisey and doomey territories. I at least would try to show off as much as possible in those two and a half minutes.
Additional rule because I forgot: No overdubs unless with an onboard looper - and if you edit make it sound natural.
Sounds like good rules, and honestly I prefer the favourite sounds thing anyway, that way we get to hear more different stuff. I wouldn't know whether to do shoegazey or mess around with noise loops, but 2.5 minutes is probably enough to do both. Definitely agree with the no overdubbing/live looping is cool policy.
