Delays that are Good Before AND After Dirt
I'm rethinking my pedalboard setup. I want to have two pedalboards that can be used on their own, simultaneously (sent to separate amplifiers) or stacked in whichever order I feel like. To do this right I need some delays that are good before dirt, and if used after dirt won't disappear; preferably with adjustable modulation. Bonus points for being small.
I remember my old 616 was too bright to be put before dirt and the memory toy was too quiet to be put after dirt, I am curious about the lo-fi 616 though. Any thoughts?

Montavillian echo worked real nice when I had one.
& it has a hi-cut knob.

Sunny Day Delay works good for me pre/post dirt.

I'm curious why someone would run a delay before dirt for any reason other than "why not?"
Not that you need another reason, of course.

I agree with this guy...thats where my sdd sits right now.

Fuzzies can react strangely (is a good way) to a near self oscillation delay put before the pedal.

Oh it should be noted that the Disaster Transport and the SDD are very similar sonically so we are basically recommending the same thing.

The DOD digital delays are very dark sounding, so they might be good before the dirt pedals.

Very Funny. I've got a lo fi EKKO 616 and tried it pre-dirt for the very first time earlier today. Sounded awesome and was very much fun. Do it.

Re: Delays that are Good Before AND After Dirt
I have the ghost disaster and I never have enjoyed it before delay too much, which if it's sonically similar to the SDD leads me to believe I won't enjoy the SDD before dirt either. Will have to do more reading on the SDD, because I've always wanted to try it.
The montavillion could be right. The description of the repeats on the website leads me to believe it would be great before fuzz.
I'm intrigued by the overall qualities of the lofi616. Could you describe what you were using and the reactions you got?

Yep, sure. Signal path went a little like this:
'60's Japanese solidbody electric w/ ridiculously microphonic pickups > Take Flight Pedals The Goose > BAT Black Forest > Malekko lo fi EKKO 616 > Neo Ventilator > Stone Deaf FX PDF-1 (on both clean and dirty settings or Wren & Cuff Phat Phuk) > BE Whetstone phaser > wittle tiny Pignose pwactice amp.
I mostly kept the lfE 616 on the same setting. Time & Mix dimed. Regen at about 1:00. Tried it with and without the modulation. Speed & Depth on the modulation set to minimum. Occasionally I'd reach over and tweak the Time knob.
Tried it with all the pedals on, just a couple pedals on and with just one other pedal on at the same time as the lfE 616. Kinda hard to describe what exactly was going on. I got everything from really pretty sounding stuff to whacked-out wild, depending on which of the other pedals I had on. I'd provide clips, but no can do.
If you've got specific questions I'd be happy to answer them. If you want to me to test out if it'll do specific things, I can do that too. Lemme know.

Re: Delays that are Good Before AND After Dirt
I have a subdecay echobox at the end of my first board that runs into my second board and sounds great as the meat in a dirtbread sandwich.
Also Run and Ibanez DL10 in my feedback loop, feeds into a wolf CPU and does awesome things to it.
DL10 is small you can find good examples for not a ton and sounds awesome

Re: Delays that are Good Before AND After Dirt
Inspired by this thread I tried both of my delays before dirt today. DMM sounded nice and the near-oscillation stuff was really cool, but I don't really like how buffers affect my dirt pedals (Arc Flash, TAFM), so I couldn't have it there all the time. SMMH was fun, but I didn't really like it as much before dirt, and I tried putting one side of it before and one after, but that just increased the delay volume and repeat so much it was useless most of the time. Basically, both fun but I'd only use them there if I was going for a specific sound for recording or just to play around.

Lofi EKKO 616 is nice because you can switch between buffered and true bypass.
