Recommend Me Some Grindcore / Powerviolence

Post by jfrey »

Stuff I like:

Agoraphobic Nosebleed
Brutal Truth
Gridlink
Nails
Napalm Death
Pig Destroyer
Rotten Sound
Worm Rot

I ask because I am most likely joining a band that plays sludge metal with strong influences of grindcore, hardcore, and powerviolence.

When you think about it, Agoraphobic Nosebleed has to be the least brutal name for a band ever.

"Powerviolence (sometimes written as power violence), is a raw and dissonant subgenre of hardcore punk.[1][2] The style is closely related to thrashcore[1] and grindcore."

Lol, yeah. The words sound brutal, but then once you think about what they mean it's totally the opposite.

I imagine something like this:

+ nosebleed for extra lame.

Locust, An Albatross, possibly Charles Bronson, Dystopia, Melt Banana, Amebix, Weevil (if you can find it), any old Braindead records stuff based out of hanford (if you can find it), and I'll try to think of more.

Heroin (though they're probably closer to first wave screamo)
anything with Justin Pearson in it is generally pretty close to powerviolence

Man is the Bastard

Edit: Just remembered Dry Rot.

Brutal Truth?
I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

To add to what's been listed already:
Scholastic Deth, Infest, Capitalist Casualties, No Comment, Crossed Out, early Bad Acid Trip, most things on 625 Thrashcore & Slap-A-Ham (excepting, you know, the odd track by someone like the Melvins or Fu Manchu).

Powerviolence is fucking awesome.
good deals are here.
