Another thing about the DOD Buzz Box...

Turn all the knobs all the way to the left. That's right, left.

Now turn up the volume slightly, slightly, slightly. Only the volume. Keep everything else minimized...

The sound is still harsher than most distortion pedals you'll come across.

Imma add the Ibanez Metal Screamer-- dunno how it works when you use it like you use a real Tube Screamer, but it's pretty bitchin' as a bass distortion! I use it for ligher overdrives on guitar, too (but I play guitar through my bass amp).

I've got a Metal Charger that I think is probably pretty close, the model number is MS10 so I am thinking MS originally stood for Metal Screamer.

Looks like the Metal Charger is a bit higher gain. Maybe a lot. I looked up a schematic, and there are a lot more diodes-- most of which I assume are clipping diodes.

The Metal Charger also has moar knobs. Looks like a really cool pedal. You like it?

all of this reminds me of my first "real" distortion pedal - an ibanez SM9. sparkly blue. "super metal." i wish i wouldn't have sold that thing.

I am not really "into" brandname-whoring, (and I'm sure-as-fuck not doing it here) but all the DOD pedals most people hate make for great Noise pedals, and are, in fact, hugely popular/sought by a lot of "Noise peeps".

The DOD 680 analog delay too - not one of the vintage pedals people rave about. It doesn't totally have that classic analog delay sound, but is a very powerful dirty oscillating weapon. As you say, great for noise and experimental stuff.

And the EOG supercharges it too

Picked up one of those cheap Artec analog delays on eBay based on starcastic's recommendation. Can't wait for it to get here.

Nice. The quality of that pedal makes me curious about the rest of their lineup... I'd like to try a few more of those bad boys once I have the cash.

That's a buddha box through a memory man w/ hazarai. The buddhist box itself are these little plastic things that play audio loops. they're sold in temples in asia with prayer chants and meditation drone notes.

The one I picked up from eBay (for cheap, $20 with shipping) has 13 different loops, takes AA's, and has a headphone out. Other ones have less loops. This is the one to look for in my opinion:


The company FM3 also is making them in bright plastic boxes that just do the drone notes things. You'll find these on eBay too.

Just to go slightly off topic of buddha machines - but onto the topic of Artec. A friend of mine has one of their wahs I was using it the other day I liked it, for a wah which is something I don't usually do. Extremely cheap as well, and a good bypass

Getting back to 'sleeper' pedals. I've heard that Digitech's The Weapon does a neat sitar effect. I've never used/owned it though. Definitely not what you necessarily expect out of a Dan Donegan signature pedal.
