MXR Blue Box

How do you all dig the Blue Box? I want one, but I hear the volume output sucks.

Mmm, the Second Voice is quite a bit more expensive.

I like your demo, Mudfuzz. Sounds good. Thanks for posting that. From what I just heard, sounded like the pedal was a bit louder than the dry signal.

It's about even, depends a little on you instrument. I've have gigged with it and for what I used it for [to get a evil tuba sound] it worked out fine. Also you could just do the melvins thing and run it into another gain pedal to boost it a bit.. listen to eggnog.. that is bluebox > RAT in parts.

I had one. it sounded great, but full volume was barely unity. So I sold it.
Apparently there is some easy mod to help the volume at the expense(?) of it being more square wavey?

I love it - but don't find the volume an issue... Just boost it if you need to. I use it with octave up pitch change effect afterwards to get it in same key as the original note... Sounds v 'primitive synth' with nice glitches!

I did this simple cut mode: http://www.noisefx.com/article/mxr_blue_box_mod

Now it's useful. Not plenty of volume but +/- unity one.

It's a cool pedal, but I agree the volume drop sucks. I found that when I had a Mid-Fi Glitch Computer, it could nail the Blue Box pretty damn exact when the tracking knob is all the way up, plus it has a ton more volume. You also might want to check out the Seppuku Sub-Octave Synth, which can also do the 2-octave-down thingy.

I love them! For the money it can't be beat really. Only reason I sold mine was owning a harmony synth & second voice. I changed a resistor in the one I had which helped a bit with volume issues...enough to where I don't remember any problems/dislikes with it.

If you have a a bit more dough to spend, I would get Brian from SS/BS to make you a guhhgh. Then there's the second voice as well. The suboctave synth from Seppuku is cool too if you can find one.

I like mine, even with the volume drop (and it's not significant, I can just work around it with another pedal or adjusting something).

Absolutely amazing mean in conjunction with a splattery octave-up effect.

Truth. I've had a whole lot of fun ripping of Lightning Bolt with Whammy (on the 2 octave up setting)>Blue Box.

Glitchy Weeerp to WOOOOOOMP is magic in a box. I definitely tweaked the treadle on the Whammy with a whole lot of those octave-y dive bombs.

Shitballs, I need to set that back up again.
