That was me. Raised on glam and punk rock all my life.
That being said. Ron Asheton (The Stooges before James Williamson came along) is not only a inspiration as a guitar player to me, but he's an excellent bass player as well. Go play Raw Power and crank the bass sometime. The opening cacophany of I Wanna Be Your Dog gives me shivers...
And yeah! Aen you're a badass. Love that tuning...

Re: Favorite Guitarists Ever?
Hard to pinpoint but bands with two guitar players that can layer and counterpoint with one another artfully really appeals to me.
Sam Prekop and Archer Prewitt of The Sea and Cake,...such tastiness in their duel nature.
Brendan Cummings and Jake Cinninger of Umphrey's McGee,...again,...tastiness in their counterpoint
Ed Harris and Woody Renere of Lake Trout,...again with the interested but different and still tight melodies
Ian Mackye
Johnny Greenwood and Ed O'Brien (who is underrated IMO).
John Scofield
Trey Anastasio
Jerry Garcia
Kim Thayil
Adrian Belew (well not yet,...but from what I've seen he is beast,...still not much for KC,...but definitely getting into his solo stuff)
Steven Wilson
To be fair,....I don't know dick about guitarists,...as I play bass and even then I don't have just one favorite bass player.

Re: Favorite Guitarists Ever?
Jorma Kaukonen. Great tones, great playing. Psychedelic without losing melodic content.
Rivers Cuomo. Not only is he an incredible songwriter, but his guitar solos are almost always memorable. Amazing tone.
Michio Kurihara. Sure, Wata is awesome, but if you've ever seen Boris live, you'll know Michio has the wildest fucking tone imaginable. Pure psychedelic bliss. His work on Rainbow is genius.
Billy Corgan. I don't care if you think his lyrics are garbage or his voice is dumb, his guitar textures speak for themselves. Not to mention i STILL get chills when i hear the solo on "Here Is No Why," and i've owned that cassette since i was 11 fucking years old. Not to mention he's probably half the reason some of our favourite effects these days are even around, and on the other side of the coin, why some of them are so sought after
John, George, Paul.
