I don't know about you, but it annoys the hell out of me when I go to place an order, and they have all but one or two things I need. Thus, I thought it might be cool if we had a place to barter components, enclosures, etc. Just put up what you're looking for & maybe the kind of stuff you have trade, and go from there.

Need at least (1) tc1044/max, (6-10) 430pf caps, & heatshrink smaller than 1/4in.
Have a bit of everything.

I may have some 430pf's. I'll look tomorrow at my stash. I scored several hundred dipped mica caps awhile back. Not sure if I have 430 but have lots of
strange values from 330 to 150pf's.

I have ten MAX1044. No 430p, closest is 470p ceramic. I have small heatshrink in multiple colors, I think.

All I am in need of right now is an LM1458 or two (or anything rail-to-rail, I suppose) for an envelope detector.

Edit: BTW, I registered a good domain name about a year ago to setup a site for bartering parts. I just haven't had a chance to do anything with it yet. Someday...

This is an awesome idea! I actually just bought a bunch of parts today from mammoth but they didn't have two things that I needed. I need a 3m3 resistor and 3 2N2907A. They had 2N2907 but they were PNP.

Anyone want to be my hero and send me those things for a few bucks or trade?

I have a 2N2222A, some 8-pin IC sockets, some regular individual sockets, an unpopulated guitarpcb GBOM pcb, and a few axial 10uf and .1uf caps.

I could also use some 5mm LED bezels.

All 2n2907 are PNP. Odd numbers are PNP, evens are NPN.

i got 3 2n2907a i can part with. i could also throw in like 6 gt313a germanium pnp's (i bought them to use in a toecutter). would that be enough for that muff pcb? oh i got some 3m3 resistors too

im not so sure thats actually true. For example 2n3906 is PNP, so is BC138 and TIP32. All very common, all PNP. TIP31 on the other hand is NPN.

I am almost certain there is no simple pattern in the number portion of the part number you can apply to all transistors in general, or to even large classes.

Yeah, I think it's a general, but not in all cases, rule.

Either way, 2n2907 = PNP.

well the good news is you have about a 50 percent chance of being right if you follow that rule.

Isn't the MPSA18 NPN though? I'm making a Soda Meiser. You can use NPN and PNP together in the same circuit?

I actually ordered a few 2N2907 from mammoth just in case so I guess I don't need them anymore.

You can use both types. In Devi's circuits they're used kinda like clipping diodes in a weird way... The Fuzz Factory uses both too.

Solid state amps use matching NPN and PNP for push/pull configs and such.

But, yes, the MPSA18 is NPN, and the 2N2907 and 2N2907A are both PNP-- the A is a bit higher gain, I think. If you didn't want to use a metal can (I really don't like them), the PN2907A is the same transistor in a normal plastic package. 2N3906 would probably sound basically the same in that circuit, too.

heatshrink smaller than 1/4in.

How much smaller? I have some really small stuff. It's under 1/8"... I think just bigger than 1/16". Perfect for splicing wires and going over component leads.

Yea bud, that's where the octave artifacts come from I've got a mode switch on one of my protos that employs such a thing.
